I agree, everything does feel weighty. In a good way ofcourse.

Yep i admit i've not played it, thought i'd just take a wild guess at it and assume the guns don't feel as right as other games do.....
Seriously though. I've played pretty much every fps game there is, have played at a respectable level in cs 1.6 and source. Playing the game gun wize did not make me think/notice anything different from games i have already played. Maybe you were looking for them more then i was?
| kn said: I created a UK account, downloaded the demo, and played through it twice. From all the initial reviews and hype, I was expecting a religious experience both graphically and gameplay-wise. As the old lady in the Wendy's commercial said, "Where's the beef?"? The graphics are top notch, no doubt, but I honestly don't find them overall any better than MGS4 and Gears 2. The physics are certainly very well done and I'd say that KZ2 certainly has a lock on "realism" from a physics standpoint, but the graphics are not what I had hoped for. Right at the beginning, for example, the water is less than impressive as you cross that little stream. I think Bioshock had better water scenes. There are some terrible textures in places if you stop and look at stuff that is both close and far. I was apalled to see the cliche exploding barrells always "just in the right place". That has gotten really old. I would also have liked to see a bit of variety in bad guys. All the same dudes. The demo AI isn't "smart" IMO, either. I've read they are clever but they just seem like more cannon fodder most of the time. Yeah, they duck, but they also pop their head up and get blasted, too. I was amped up about the game after all the hype but after having played the demo, I'm going to wait for it to come out and read some later reviews. All the 10s the game has gotten (as well as other games this gen) are highly misleading as the game, in my opinion, a bit uninspired, and cliche. In the end, it does look like a polished version of COD and that isn't a bad thing. Based on the demo, however, it isn't the defining game of this generation or of this genre. I'm sure my post will be labeled blasphemy. Oh well. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and in this case, most will think mine sucks. Sobeit. BTW, I played the first round on my 1080P 42" Sharp Aquos LCD and my second round on my Sharp DLP projector. |
I find it contradictory how folks are quick to say 'OMG, the demo rocks!' and folks agree, but when a person says 'It's meh' or asks 'what's special,' they get hammered.
My question is - how can folks say 'You need to play the game first before passing judgment' but praising the positive comments on the demo?
Dude, I am not faded. I went into the demo and was like 'Ai'te ... let's see what we have.'
The graphics are good but the demo isn't as pretty as Uncharted or Metal Gear. Even with the motion, Hollywood-style camera angle, I was shocked - SHOCKED - by the lifeless look on the soldiers' faces. I was crouched against the first wall after the Helghast ambushed like 3 soldiers and I zoomed in on the faces of the dude with the skullcap, and the others. They were all emotionless, shocked. It looked like they had touched an electric fence and were dazed. No eye movement - nada.
That's beside the point. The point is - I think the PS3 hasn't had a console-exclusive shooter before R2 for a long time. Seriously, I remember the hype surrounding Haze. Yeah - nectar, baby - and how it flopped. I think also a lot of the hype surrounds the Halo-Gears franchises. Sony hasn't come close to tarnishing their armor. They want to believe KZ2 will finally - finally get folks on board with the true HD console and off the Loud White Box. Such a pity ...
Truth be told, I went into the demo with no preformed idea. I wanted to play a game. And I left thinking 'Why all the hype?' Of course, the bots will twist my words, scream '360-bias' and prolly blame the MSM if it doesn't perform as expected.
It really turns off some future buyers who see the hype surrounding PS3 games and how rabid fans can be.
I played it - will likely play the retail version - and just like the demo, will go in with no preformed ideas.

This man speaks with reason.
This topic scares me, I must go now.

You can find me on facebook as Markus Van Rijn, if you friend me just mention you're from VGchartz and who you are here.

im not likin some of the negatively around killzone
no it my not do anything different from other shooter but it doesn't have to
people forget nether did halo 3 or COD so dont fix whats isnt broken
not everyones played every FPS ever (me) and i loved the demo
so if ye FPS GODS are looking for something revolutionary go ahead and wait 10 years while we play a good old fashion shooter
^ seriously as long as it's another good fps why does everyone bitch? What the hell do most of you expect, I still play a game of red faction 2 with my friends when they come over and have fun; just as I can play some halo 3 and have fun. Don't expect so much out of these fps if they are a different experience then that should be enough to keep us content.
I think its special because of the gameplay and graphics. Two or three years ago, people had low expectations for this game when it first appeared at E3. Today, thre is unbelievable hype for the game because of how much the development has improved. It has been said as the game that will have a meteoric rise from the past title in the series. I have seen so many videos for this game and at one point it seems like it is impossible like a game like this is exclusive on the PS3. I hope the game will have huge first week sales and also strong weekly sales worldwide.
TO GOD BE THE GLORY

I certainly don't. Haze was barely hyped at all as far as I recall, and as a PS3 owner, I was keeping my eye on exclusives at the time.
Who is to say it won't bring 360 owners over? Your play time with an 8 minute demo? (I could point to evidence found on forums across the net of 360 owners expressing excitement and an eagerness to play the game, but this is the internet, and evidence like that doesn't hold much water.)
"[Sony] want to believe KZ2 will finally, finally get folks on board with the true HD console and off the Loud White Box. Such a pity..."
You seem to think that Killzone 2 is an effort by Sony to convert 360 gamers. Or something.
With millions of gamers yet to move on to a current gen console, I think Sony would be far happier roping in completely new gamers to their platform, rather then pulling old ones off the 'loud white box'.

You can't make that claim without playing the game. Come on now, be more intelligent than that.
And, it has a fantastic feel for the weight of yourself and the weapons you carry.
