Forums - Sales - Poll: Will the Wii pass the PS2 in sales?

I personally have my doubts ...

Beyond the fact that a (moderately) large portion of PS2 sales would be replacement systems to people who already owned a PS2, the PS2 was in a position where it was (more or less) a direct replacement for the XBox or Gamecube and easily stole potential users from both platforms.

The Wii will move from a market leading position to a dominating position in the very near future, but breaking that 120 Million unit barrier will not be easy ...

And then you forgot that the PS2 is is selling good and probably already passed the 120 million with again some million units X__X.

I think there's something everyone's overlooking: the market grows with every year. Logically, each generation has a better chance of selling x amount of consoles because the market is bigger. I'm going with yes, but not by a gargantuan amount. I'll estimate 130mil total.

I dunno. I bought 3 PS2s, and I can't imagine the Wii being that crappily made. So I'll say no.

YES, WHEN INITIATE THE OFICIAL WII SALES IN CHINA , INDIA AND PAKISTAN
THE WII SALES, OVERPASS THE HISTORY OF PS2, IN NO MORE OF 3 YEARS

It's 9 months since launch and it's sold more than the PS2 did in its first 9 months.

I think we've only seen the beginning. Nintendo by far has the upper hand in the price war and Microsoft and Sony's advantage, graphical capability, is being hamstringed by slow HD adoption. They're already making a profit on each unit and they have economies of scale on their side. It may be years before Wii sales are demand limited since Nintendo should be able to lower the price every time demand goes lower than supply.

I predict that by the end of this generation, nearly every console gamer, except for the most stubborn Xbox and Playstation diehards, will own a Wii. Some of them will be a bit reluctant to buy it, but by the time it gets down to $150, there's going to be enough must-have games that it will be nearly impossible to resist.

No.

It won't be available on the market long enough to do that before the next Nintendo console comes out.

My pokemon brings all the nerds to the yard. And they're like, "You wanna trade cards?" Damn right, I wanna trade cards. I'll trade this, but not my charizard.

Given that it has stronger competition than PS2 did, I am going to also say no. DS has a strong chance if it is not replaced in the next few years however.

Yeah, the PS3 sure destroyed sales of the PS2 when it was released.

To cash in my CC rewards points for $300 in Circuit City gift cards to purchase a 360 or not: That is the question.

Yes

It is the fastest selling system ever. Sales will continue to go up just ass the PS2 did. If the PS2 sold at it's current rate after 9 months, it wouldn't have sold as much as it did.

I don't say it will but it looks like that PS2 is going to pass 130 million :s.
