Forums - Nintendo - The detail in Mushroom Men is blowing my mind

This isn't another thread bemoaning lackluster "hardcore" sales on Wii.  This isn't a plea for you to spend your dollars in some sort of anti-casual protest.  Mushroom Men isn't for everyone.   It has a wacky "alternative" art style, platformers are passe, and I know first hand that many people hate Primus/Les Claypool (my friends in highschool threatened to smash my CD player if I put Pork Soda on one more time)

But as a fan of 90's concert poster art, platformers, and Primus, this game had to have been made for me.

One of the key elements in a platformer is exploration, and for exploration to be fun, the game needs to be detailed and visually appealing.  This gamefaqs quote sums up how I feel about the detail:

I love all the little details you
can catch if you take time to look at the backgrounds and objects in the level.
There are even some notes posted on the wall in one level that the level
designers actually bothered to write full text for. One of them I read talks
about aliens stealing our oil and selling it back to use at $150 a barrel. This
is a silly note that shows you the personality of the guys who spent hours of
their lives putting this game together. There are all sorts of these silly
little references to real world topics and brand names and I'll point these
things out from time to time in the walkthrough. Maybe it's just me but those
details really made the game for me.

I'm just glad I paid attention to the Amazon user reviews rather than Metacritic when deciding to buy this game.  I love it!

PC + Wii owners unite.  Our last-gen dying platforms have access to nearly every 90+ rated game this gen.  Building a PC that visually outperforms PS360 is cheap and easy.    Oct 7th 2010 predictions (made Dec 17th '08)

... It really does look interesting. Too bad my local retailer doesn't seem to have this game...

But... but HD! But Blu-Ray! But ZOMGKIDDY!

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

Hmmm, I had passed this off because I heard it was short, but others have said it isn't that short and also has reasonable replay value, I will look into it more me-thinks.... although it is not released here yet anyway.

That does actually look pretty cool, and the sort of game I'm into. I'll do some more research, and consider a purchase - I haven't bought a Wii title for a while now... (since WiiMusic I think!).

I would've bought it, but nobody around me carries it. I hate living in nowhere.

I'm sure to get it once I can find it for 19.99 new.

Seems like such an interesting game and it's tempting, but neither do I have the time nor the money and when I get one or the other there are still higher priorities. Maybe when I can get it for $30 new or something I'll consider it. Until then it's Mario Tennis on Wii for me, baby.

You do not have the right to never be offended.

^ i bet you could find it for 30 new now.

Mushroom Men? It's hard as hell to find period, so I'm not sure what price it's at, but that last time I saw a copy in stores it was $50.
