Forums - Nintendo - Fallout 3 dev says Wii is a toy (but Bethesda making medieval Wii games?)

I agree with todd, wii is a casual console, beth makes hardcore games

A soccer mom or 60 year old wont look at fallout 3 or oblivion and go O THIS LOOKS FUN

~93% of PS360 owners, so far, feel the same way about Fallout 3 as does your hypothetical soccer mom/60 year old.

~93% of PS360 owners, so far, feel the same way about Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion as does your hypothetical soccer mom/60 year old.

Going by these statistics, it would appear that ~93% of PS360 owners are soccer moms, or 60 years old (I don't know why you think that a 60 year old would not enjoy "hardcore" games..........I belive Grampy is an older video game player, and he enjoys these "hardcore" games).

This seems rather hypocritical. You barrate him for making assumptions about games he hasn't played, and then talk about the supposed issues of Fallout 3 (and your story description is amazingly wrong) without anything leading me to believe you've played it yourself.

You're free to check my Gamertag (BrainBoxLtd) and see how much I've played the game. I know you're actually finding your dad and then purfying the water that's been poisioned by the war while the enclave are after you, but for me it's still just a form of saving the world.

Sounds like an oversimplification by someone who just doesn't like the genre in general, but I don't like Fallout 3 enough to get into a debate about its qualities, so screw it.  Now talk bad about Persona or VC and we'll have a debate on our hands.

No... i'd say his explination is about right... and i like Fallout 3.

It's not really anything different from the Elderscrolls line when it comes to storytelling.

Beth has good gameplay, but as far as storytelling goes in an RPG.... they just don't do it well.

It may be because they are trying to fit a linear traditional story in a sandbox game... when most people have yet to realize sandbox games are horrible vehicles for this kind of storytelling and you need to "evolve" with it.

Wii is like 3x as poweful as the XBox. It could do Oblivion and Fallout 3 easy. It has DVD and everything needed. Bethesda could have saved lots of art money by making those game for the Wii.

1st bold: Nope...it actually has almost the exact same amount of computing power as the orginal Xbox

2nd bold: No.....a Nintendo console STILL doesn't have DVD

Uh.  You do know that the numbers on a proccessor aren't all that matters when it comes to the power of said processor right?

More the story then the genre, but the genre is generally heavily story driven, so in part, I guess not my favorite genre doesn't help. I liked Morrowwind because the game gave you a lot more freedom and you could do things like use super jump spells to fly over half the continent land in the ocean, die, and laugh about it. Very little of that in Oblivion and Fallout 3. I did like nuking Meagton and accidentally launching a missle at one point, but they're both scripted events in the game and with WRPG's I'm more into making my own fun.

As for Persona and Valkyria Chronicles, I haven't played them. And I tend to avoid commenting on games I haven't played myself.

Well, The Wii doesn't need Bethesda, Wii has better 3rd party developers better than them. Beside they don't even make good games.

Suprisingly, this guy got away with this comment despite all fallout 3 GOTY awards yet ps3 "fans" got crucified for saying they didn't like Valve games on another popular thread. The site can produce some funny connundrums sometimes.

I guess it's about putting your support "where it's at" LMAO.

Yes, well sometimes there are comments that are just not logical enough to comment on...best to leave it be and move on...

OT: Sometimes I do wonder why so-called "professionals" and "adults" can act so...childish. I really believe they do this in order to get attention because despite my lack of faith in humanity in general, I just cannot believe a man of his standing can say something like that and mean it at the same time. BTW I did play Oblivion, and despite the awards it won and the many things the game has achieved, I really got bored of playing the game...just too much.

360 Tag - narfwack

Well, there are some developers (and some posters) who fit the definition of "snobcore."

What that means is that =they like high-end, complex, graphical-intensive games. Which in and of itself is fine. The problem is that they are dismissive of any other type of gaming and gamer. That is where the "snob" comes in.

Obviously, since only about 7 percent of PS3 and Xbox 360 owners bought Fallout 3, it is a minority. But it is a very vocal one which often acts and speaks as if it is the "true" voice of gaming (or the "only true" voice for gaming.

The truth is that there will always be a place (a market) for these type of games. But what is uncalled for is the callous attitude the "snobcore" has toward the vast majority. They do not represent "true gaming" -- no one does because gaming is so varied. And video games ARE toys!.

Finally, the Wii could use all the good developers it can get -- because it only improves the product for gamers. Also, all good developers can use the Wii because there are 45M potential customers out there. That 7 percent interest results in 3.15M units sold -- which is nothing to dismiss.

But if push comes to shove, the Wii can do without a developer unwilling to make games for it because Nintendo has the best first-party games. Meanwhile, developers are going under -- many of whom did not/have not made games for the Wii.
