So is an 8.0 like a 10.0 for the Wii now?

In my opinion "10" is a score that shouldn't be given to any game.

I wouldn't agree with that. I just think that it should be very difficult to get.  For it's time Super Mario 64, for example, probably should have gotten a 10.  Some of the newer games that are getting 10's are only getting them due to hype, anti-Wii bias, or that they're being paid off or all of the above.

I agree with you... I think Wii reviews in terms of scores (even though I don't really like the scoing system) are pretty good, like Endless Ocean is an 8 on IGN, which is an excellent score.

Many non-Wii games in particular (and Zelda too, even though I love the franchise I think it is often scored too highly) are getting 8s when they are thouroughly mediocre games..... so it's not that websites are anti Wii, it's that they have experienced a score inflation for PS360 games that are essentially last gens average games beefed up slightly.

That's incredibly cynical. I very much doubt that GTAIV and Metal Gear Solid 4 received 10's in order to give the Wii a slap in the face. What an odd way of looking at things...

No. Not at all. We all know that these are the two greatest games ever made.  Right?  It's the "hardcore" reviewer's way of saying buy the great games on the HD systems.  Nintendo has crap.  Which Wii game has gotten all 10's?  None.  Anyone saying that Super Mario Galaxy is not just as good as these two games, for the type of game it is, is a liar.  Most right minded people would say that it's better than GTA 4.  GTA4 and MGS 4 scored a 10 and not a 9.5 or 9.75 or whatever the reviewers truely believe that they should have gotten for these reasons.  A ten should be gaming perfection.  None of these games,  Super Mario Galaxy included, should be a ten.  Those tens were statement scores in my mind.  If that makes me incredibly cynical, than that's what I am.

Good review. It looks like this game will be moving to my "to buy" list.

Is it just me or are this generations games shorter than last generation?

This is a great game.

Right from the start, with Billy Bob doing the intro voice acting, the mood is set. He dose it well and is not just phoning it in like most big name stars do for games they are hired to do.

The the graphics are great and insect animations are very nicely done.

The game has great atmosphere, kind of like Metroid where you are alone in a dangerous environment.

The combat is good, you unlock moves and upgrades as you progress. the motion gesture all work (a rarity) A nice option it has is being able to adjust motion sensitivity, which all games that have motion controls should. So you can perform a move without flailing your arms around like a mad man.

The only minor flaw, I could nit pick is that between areas there a second or two pause for loading. No doubt a drawback from them pushing graphics.

Good game and something different that usual, same old game with updated graphics which 99% are these days.

Go buy the game and support a dev making decent "core"games on the and not just crapping out shovel ware.

These games are not going to compete if they don't even advertise on tv. Matt from Ign says Deadly Creatures won't be advertised on tv at all.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Hopefully, word of mouth from gamers will get their target audience to buy it.

That said if it sells well, there will be a sequel.
