When making comparisons we are also taking images from any point in GEoW2 (In other words we get to look for the parts that look the best) and comparing it to the first area in KZ2.
Not sure about anyone else here, but if I play the demo of KZ2 and check out the Warehouse area, then go into GEoW2's first indoor area (Part where Locusts come in the door and you wait for them top surround the explosives and then blow them to hell), to me anyways I can see a clear edge for KZ2.
This is why I think unreleased vs. released is not fair. You can grab anything you want while we have no clue how KZ2 looks later on in the game. It could look a ton better than the opening level. For all we know you might find some vegitation. Who knows?
Also the fact you acknowledge that the textures look betetr in the Jan 2009 build, changed texture colors and such so everything did not look the same makes me think even more than that even though KZ2 comes out on top, the comparison just isn't at the point yet where we can make a fair analysis.
I agree about the geometry part though, not many round edges so far, but as I said before, who knows how it gets later on. |
I am not sure if you read the entire thread (I know it is long) but I've always maintained that Killzone 2 looks better than Gears of War 2. I was just trying to explain to people *why* it looks that good and how it was forced into this art style . Also, there are people that have had the chance to play much more than just the demo and they also complained about the lack of vegitation in the game. I hope we are able to find at least 1 tree in the game.

I know you think it looks better. I believe I wrote that in one of my posts. In my first one I believe.
For those who played the beta. I believe they only played a multiplayer which only had 4 out of the 8 levels available, so once again, who knows what you will find in the other 4 levels? I think the game will surprise even more in the later levels. I hope the other 4 multiplayer levels do the same.
I believe many games work this way. First time I played Gears of War I thought it looked sick (still do), but later on in the game it made me go "WHOA! WTF! OMG!" all over again because some areas later on just looked so much better. For me anyways.
I agree though that I would like to see some vegetation as well.
I actually really like the way you made your analysis, don't get me wrong. I am just a person who believes you shouldn't compare until at least both titles are released.
I hope you will come back and do the analysis again with a finished retail copy.
I learn quite a bit from threads like this.
iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.
