Forums - Nintendo - Eurogamer: House of the Dead Overkill 8/10

Yeah. It's the "8" month for Wii

It's still worth equipping something a little more accurate in your second slot for the bosses. These are the game's other principal flaw - although imaginatively staged and conceived, many of them don't offer much in the way of reward, and their difficulty is all over the place. The first two (the second of which, the Ring-inspired Screamer, is actually a game highlight) are far more difficult than the middle three.

Combined with the occasionally grating script, these moments of weakness and imbalance can cause The House of the Dead: Overkill to feel flat at times. But that's only because they're thrown into stark relief by the rest of the game's frankly amazing quality, attention to detail and largesse: the impeccable presentation and production values, the clever and generous structure, the compelling scoring, the intoxicating flow of the levels. Incredibly for such a simple and strictly limited game, it almost never tries your patience, and it's made with such infectious and irreverent glee and such obvious pride, you can't help but join in.

wow, and 8 from Euro gamer is an awsome score, they are one of the few reviewers that are actually hard on games these days.

I believe MKWii got a 6 from them for example.

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

That's... a lot higher then i thought.

They gave Umbrella Chronicles a 70.

Time Crisis 4 a 50.

If this game really is better then Umbrella Chronicles... oh man.

Better than Umbrella Chronicles? I might have to look into this when it's a bit cheaper--UC is great!

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Wow that's a very enthusiastic review.

I wasn't interested in this since I already own 3 wii light-gun games, but this sounds great damnit!

Here is the IGN review...i didnt see anyone post it. Looks like Wii has a its first game that will bite in to my 360 play time in a long time...

8.5 Presentation
The grindhouse feel is retained throughout, though the swearing can be a bit too much at times. Other than that, the characters are funny, script entertaining, and game hardcore in nature.
8.5 Graphics
The models are well made, body parts fly, blood sprays, and environments morph and change with scripted events. The frame issues keep it down, but all in all it’s still a great experience.
8.0 Sound
The music is well produced, but the VO can be too much at times, often using profanity just because they can. There are some level issues, but slow motion transitions are impressive.
8.0 Gameplay
The game plays well, though balance starts to shift to one-shot kills once you power up weapons. Bosses could be better, but classic House of the Dead gunplay is undeniably fun.
8.0 Lasting Appeal
Good old fashioned arcade fun. Added modes and three basic mini-games are included, though the real strength of the game will come from repetition through the seven levels.
8.3
Impressive

I like how Eurogamer says that the grating dialogue is a bad thing. LOL. Grindhouse movies and HoTD games both have always had grating dialogue. If this game didn't, I'd be upset.

Very excited about this game.
