(talking about most HD games)

This generation the average HD game takes about 1 - 2 years to make, but some of the big games like FFXIII, Gran Turismo 5, Halo 3, Team Ico game and Killzone 2 have been on there 3rd, 4th and even 5th year of development, and a couple of those games probably won't be out till 2010.

So the question is how long will the average and/or big games for the next generation take to make?

i think it depends how many people r working on a game and if it has multiplayer,how long it is,among alot of other things.look at gearbox they released ther first to next gen games last year and they have another one this year

Substituting "years" for "lifetimes" will give you a smaller, much easier number to work with.

Insomniac will make a game every year...

In many cases it is because the development tools are quite tricky because of the large jump in hardware (weren't the PS2 ones quite hard to use at first as well?)

Anyway, next time I am sure that they will make it slightly less hard for developers after all the criticism that Sony have got over the issue, and the inferior ports that we used to see.

For Final Fantasy XIII, it is their first game on the system, and it will have only been 3 years for those of us in Europe!
GT 5, well they are making the most detailed cars ever, it is just ridiculous
Team Ico release a game every 4 years
Guerilla are making sure that KZ2 is a hit, and given they are a developer with very little experience, their first games are going to take a long time before they become more experienced and efficient

They don't sleep so that doubles their production rate.  Unfair advantage I say.
