Forums - Sales - The Official July (USA) NPD Thread (Data should be in by 6:30 PM August 23)

His attitude isn't going to be atypical in the wake of this, though. It's probably very bad for vgchartz's image to get placements wrong. Off by 10-15% is probably okay, but given the propensity of people to take the weekly numbers and start up message board topics like "360 outsells PS3 this week", getting the placements wrong is going to encourage accusations of bias.

Really good month for the Wii. Hopefully Nintendo has some extra Wii's in store for the "Month of Metroid" (at least for the week of Metroid). Yeah the hardware was off but nothing severe. In the overall scheme of things the monthly sales matter less each month and the error each month even less than that. As for the software issue, that's why I'm holding off on analyzing the Madden situation.

Isn't this just US figures? Or do they do both now? If it's just the US, then the Wii is undertracked by considerably more than 50k.

A lot of highly paid analysts got it wrong too.

Yeah. Just US. I quoted the official release above.

Well ,183K for the 360 so yes it has been undertraked

So ,360 undertracked by nearly 50K .
PS3 allright .
Wii undertracked by another 50K .
DS overtracked.
PS2 spot on.
PSP very close but a bit overtracked.

What I see is a wild difference in the software numbers .I mean ,for example the PS3 title we have seen that is the one that interest me the most ...NCAA Football did in the PS3 159 000 units only in July and the charts show it at only 125K at 18th August .....so the game charts need some adjustement .

PS:Luzillo si dije fue porque otros meses pasaba exactamente al reves ,daban los datos de 360 los de NPD y habia que revisar a la baja.

Euh, guys, do you think that we can't understand you because you speak spanish?  I don't get it, it would be much more interesting to have it in english.

Ne soyez pas des poules mouillées et dites le en anglais :P (This part is for Luzillo ;) )

Mm ,now that I see the PS3 numbers are almost spot on (4K of difference ) ,the Ps2 ones are exactly spot on ....and the 360 is somewhat undertracked with only 136K in vgchartz and 170K after NPD .

For ps2, this is 222+20=242. vgchartz give 224. So, it is not as good as you said.

For 360, this is 170+13=183, and vgc give 136.

For wii, this is 425+36=461, and vgc give 376.

These new data don't change the date of "the cross over sales", but the numbers yes.

Well overtracking the DS is not bad, as NPD`s estimates are usually very conservative.

So on the good side are: DS, PSP, PS3, PSP

On the bad side are: Wii, XBox 360.

That´s pretty good I think - only the 360 has a bigger error margin, for the Wii numbers 10k a week are just 10% remember! That is still good.

Edit: read Lombard´s post, he is correct. Vgchartz was undertracking the Wii by 20k a week. that is 20%. but I honestly think Ioi is conservative with the Wii numbers because he doesn´t want us to be called Nintendo fanboys... you know, that stupid rumor was there.

All in all it is still pretty spot on for the most consoles (again: overtracking is not as bad as it seems).

Well Sulla for July the PS3 and 360 difference has been 174K against 183K ,only 9K of difference so some 2K weekly .And the PS3 hasnt been at 499 for all the month ,it dropped the price around 10 or 11 July so thats at least a full week with lower sales .If it was at 499 for all the month it would have outsold the 360 or at least equal it .

Now in August it has a chance ....well no I just remembered the 360 dropped the price too in august (small drop but it sure has had some effect ,plus Madden etc ) .

In any case keeping close to the 360 isnt so bad as if more than makes up the difference in Japan and Europe .

DS sales should rebound in August with the RB Brain bundle.
