EDIT: my bad. I didn't see that it was already posted.
So... wow. The Wii numbers are insane. Now it's selling a LOT faster than the PS2 was at this time. I wonder why Pokemon DP sales were off so much though.

you should really read the entire thread before commenting
mario strikers was just out 5 days when NPD's july period ends
sure that doesn't mean it still isn't overtracked, but it would be less
These numbers are strange... And it was definitely not a good month for VGChartz.
| VGC | NPD | |||
| Wii | 376k | 461k | -85k | -18% |
| DS | 566k | 451k | +116k | +26% |
| PS2 | 224k | 242k | -18k | -7% |
| PSP | 240k | 220k | +20k | +9% |
| X360 | 136k | 183k | -47k | -26% |
| PS3 | 179k | 174k | +5k | +3% |
| GBA | 93k | 97k | -3k | -3% |
I'm not sure what it was tracking but according to NPD/IGN but Mario Strikers sold over 100k. Not bad for a soccer-ish game. Yeah soccer-ish!
So the Wii outsold PS3 and 360 COMBINED by 96,000?
Holy Crap!!
Wii and DS together outsold PS2, PS3, PSP, and 360 COMBINED by 65,000??
Holy Crap again!
And that's just the US NUMBERS!?!?
What happens when you include Japan in the mix?
Nintendo owns all.

Ooops... that is Diamond only? That explains a lot - figures much closer then :)
I don't think the VGChartz numbers are *that* bad (for hardware anyway) - except for the Wii/DS.

Don't forget about Canada. The 360 is as bad as the DS, the Wii less so (-26%, +26% and -18% respectively). The rest are all pretty OK (within 10%).
Oddly the Wii is outsells the DS in the States, and not in Canada. And the PS3 couldn't beat the 360 with what... 3 weeks (out of 4) into the price drop? This month was definitely peculiar. I'm curious what August will show, with the 360's price drop and Madden craze.
Just for the record NPD is doing analysis just like VGC is. It is very unlikely that either of them are exact and there isn't really a good way to tell who is even closer.
I would point out that ioi doesn't hide from discrepancies and never once has he stated that his numbers are the most accurate (to my knowledge anyways). The statement VGC makes is that it is the most comprehensive freely available video game charts in the world. ioi is constantly working to fine tune the numbers and he routinely makes changes and adjustments as a result. I don't see how people can bash him for trying to improve.
With that said, it is fair to look at the difference and try to make sense of it. Obviously at least one of the two is off and figuring out why only enables VGC to bring their analysis and calculations closer and closer to the exact numbers.
