@johnsobas: the data is 2 weeks old ...
Oh, and look for another jump in blu ray marketshare, possibly bringing the brand up to 20% marketshare, once the PS3 price cut actually happens
Excellent figures for Blu Ray, it's slowly taking over the market. I expect these figures to rise to 30-40% by the end of the year.
Thats funny, since I have stopped buying movies on blu-ray, due to lack of funds. The marketshare has gone up considerably. Nice job Blu-Ray group.

17% in one year after the demise of HD DVD is pretty good.
Do you guys think you could have effectively debated the value of fire or the wheel thousands of years ago?
Thanks for the input, Jeff.

Likely counting the top 20 only like Blu-ray usually does. With Revenue.
Still i find it funny that they keep pronouncing "Record sales".
Shouldn't every week be record sales in growth in the market?
Otherwise your stagnating or doing worse?
"Yay we're doing better this week then last."
Guess all the small steps are still steps.

I just hope they won't pull the same stunt as CDs vs tapes.
They launched the CDs at higher price saying it would come down as the format gained popularity but they held the price high even after CDs became the main format. At least, that eventually came back to bite them in the ass as it helped the rise of illegal music downloading.

Some more blu-ray news with regard to BD players and their pricing:
"According to Chinese newspaper Economic Daily News, white-box vendors - the term used for little-known consumer electronic manufacturers - will offer Blu-ray Disc players at the $150 price point this year. Additionally, Lite-On is planning to offer a half-height Blu-ray Disc drive for laptop applications for roughly the same price.
Both moves are in response to increased demand for low-cost, Blu-ray products as the high definition format saturates the market."

Also, quoted from home media magazine:
"BD pricing dropped 14% in 2008 to an average retail price of $28.93, which still represented a $13.19 premium on standard DVDs, according to Media Control. "
So, prices for Blu ray movies have moved down a bit but they aren't moving down AS FAST as the player prices have decreased
I imagine anytime a new product comes on the market it starts 'records' everyweek. We sold 1 this week NEW RECORD, 2 this week NEW RECORD, 3 this week NEW RECORD, etc. Sales are important, but it seems weird to be calling something a record when it's market share is so low. What record did it beat? oh, just it's own record...how difficult.
I love press releases.
