They also said Halo was coming to the DS, that "Kid Icarus Wii" would be revealed last E3, and that the PSP2 was coming soon...
But yeah, that's probably correct :P

Wasn't that also what was set up on Amazon?
It's probably true, though. Far enough back (perhaps even too far) that they will almost definitely have it done by then, thus very believable.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
sega still has it listed as spring 09, so I guess june 9th is possible,
hopefully at comic-con NY the actual release date will be announced
I HAVE A DOUBLE DRAGON CAB IN MY KITCHEN!!!!!!
NOW A PUNISHER CAB!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't give that too much credit. IGN updates those dates on a weekly basis so don't be surprised if that changes - several times. But the fact that there's a date there is interesting, it could well be an intended date.
A good release date choice.Far enough from other high profile games and their own to capitalize on sells. Plus it is just before the long drawn out lull of no new games (mid june to early august) to give it some makeshift legs.
I love fighting games !!! Come on challenge me !
I find it funny that people still read and listen to release dates posted by any site other than the main publishers. Like when Amazon lists games as being released on the 1st of January as just a placeholder.
What day do games come out in the US? Is it a Tuesday or something? Games are always released on a Friday in the UK (unless a really special occasion like World of Warcraft), so if the date is anything other than a Friday, then I wouldn't ever take the date seriously.
Should be a general rule of thumb for everybody.

June 9th is a Tuesday, and in the US it isn't nearly as strict as in the UK. Games typically release on Tuesday, but it isn't uncommon to see games released on Monday or Wednesday. On some special occasions games release on Sunday (MKWii was the last one I remember being on a Sunday)
However, I still haven't seen a press release stating anything other than being available in the spring, which June is in the summer.

Its been listed as Q2 2009 for a long time now. That would be April, May, or June. So a June 9th release date makes sense to me.

These marketing people speak in Quarterly terms, though. To them, Spring is April, May, or June, while the popular vision of summer includes June, and according to the sun June straddles both Spring and Summer (though June 9th would be spring in the solar interpretation of it)
