Forums - General - Paramount and Dreamworks backs HD-DVD exclusively!

"""""Transformers will be forgotten fast, especially all the blurry fight scenes where you don't even understand what's going on (these people need some chinese choreographers and directors, alonf with japanese ones, really!). I'll pass on the typical american cheesy and comic relief scenes which have nothing to do in the transformer franchise.""""

==> +1 for ookaze,
quote of the week,
I just saw Transformers 1 hour ago,
I agree with u.

About format war, HD DVD is dying even when Toshiba try to buy timed exclusivity, they will die just because of one thing :
PS3.
In the end of 2007 :

player HD DVD : 500k
player BR : 6500K

HD format sales : 80% BR.

Wow this is a crazy move. This pretty much kills all of the good that the GTA4 set back made for the PS3. This winter was supposed to be all about pushing Blu-ray, so that when GTA came out Sony could drop the price on the PS3 to 399. With the huge support of Blu-ray it would be an easy choice for consumers to pick the PS3 over the 360. Now with this announcment they have ruined that plan a little. Not only that but they have inevitably lengthend a pointless format war. Blu ray has been the obvious choice between the to formats by anyone that knows anything about the formats. It had better support, better techolagy, better features, and a good long future. Now with HD-DVD having a good chance to win I see a new format every 5 years in the movie industry becoming the standard. This IMO is an obviuos move to pull in the idiot consumer and scew them over.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

It's telling, really!

Shrek is just no match in popularity to Pixar movies. Pixar was bought by Dysney, so that pretty much seals it. If not hardcore cinephile, people will just buy the DVD version.

Granted it's a few years old, but Shrek (especially as a franchise) is top dog. Pixar/Disney wins out by sheer quantity. Shrek 3 also broke the opening #s record for animated films.

To cash in my CC rewards points for $300 in Circuit City gift cards to purchase a 360 or not: That is the question.

I agree with libellule here 72% of PS3 owners own a Blu-ray movie(official research done by Sony).If MS had put HDDVD in X360 then Blu-ray would be already dead but they didnt and Toshiba is paying for it not MS and yes Toshiba is putting HDDVD players in their computers but Sony is putting Blu-ray players in theirs and Apple is supporting Blu-ray so the G6 laptops will probably have Blu-ray players in them but these are atleast 2-3years away yet so no threat to HDDVD yet.Blu-ray is still outselling HDDVD 2:1 on movie sales.

End of 2014 Hardware Predictions (03/03/14)

PlayStation 4: 12-15million

Xbox One: 7-10 million

Wii U: 8-9 million (Changed 01/04/2014 from 7-9 --> 8-9 million)

The DVD wars have been kind of dead for the last month or so...about 3 weeks ago sony actually raised the prices of its BD movies to an average of about $34 or $35, and HD-DVD followed them, actually putting its price a little lower, at about $32-$33. The thing of it is though, is that Sony's market share has been doing just fine; BD has about 70% of the market share according to dvdempire.com and HDDVD has about 30%, so 2.3333333 BD movies are sold for every HD-DVD movie, and this 70% of BD is actually better than what BD has done in the last couple of months so this price INCREASE hasn't done anything to hurt their sales, in fact if you look at the sales on eproductwars.com/dvd , you will see that for the last month, BD sales have stayed pretty constant. This is actually a lot more remarkable than all of this dry business stuff sounds. Previously, the HD-DVD was a little bit more expensive than the BD, yet the BD outsold about 2:1, now the HDDVD is a little bit cheaper yet the BD market share has improved, so things are really looking a LOT WORSE for HDDVD than BD right now.

So, this move seems to be one of desperation, one of microsoft paying off the studios, rather than the studios coming to this decision through deciding things over for themselves.

I see this is about to blow up maybe just maybe i smell Star Wars Blu ray around the corner , that would end the war full stop .

"""If MS had put HDDVD in X360 then Blu-ray would be already dead """

==> no, because Xbox360 will not have sold 10.5M
but only 5M (extra cost) ... and PS3 will be at 6M
Wii will still be sold out but demand would have been even bigger.

Yeah, that wouldn't look desperate and cause a lot of negative press for Sony ...

Honestly, I would say that dropping the price of the 80GB model to $500 is about the best that people can expect from Sony in the near future.

Star Wars in Blu-ray that will speed up the war quite significantly.

Mitsuhide you are the biggest fanboy on here. At least I own an Hddvd player you own a PS3 you don't even own a real Bluray player you just like Bluray because Sony put it in the PS3 and you want so badly for Sony to win the HD format war because deep down you now they aren't going to win the video game war.
