Forums - Nintendo - Is it me, or most people who don't really care for the Wii...

In all honesty I appreciate the Wii getting those JRPGs simply because it gets us some JRPGs, and that's almost exclusively what I play. And because clutching handhelds tires me out pretty quickly.
Also partly because the lower capabilities of the hardware encourage more style over realism - and I vastly prefer the anime look.

However I don't really like the controls (even without motion, the buttons' layout just doesn't feel comfortable to me). So in a way I'd rather even have those JRPGs on the PS2.

I would prefer those games on a HD console, simply for the better textures and smoother lines. Tales of Vesperia was pretty much what I wanted from current-gen JRPGs, but that is also the extent to which I want graphics improved. But it's hardly a must, my PS2 is still my most played console.
Well, this gen has been pretty lacking for me so far, doesn't matter which console, I think I have 3 games on each that I really wanted and enjoyed.

edit: Looking at the list above I also don't care for the Nintendo franchises much, if at all. Got my Wii for Trauma Center.

You could buy some grips that make them more like holding a controller.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

meh, the reason I don't care for the wii is because it lacks the games that I like, and personally no mario or zelda game have ever appelaed to me, and yes I have played mario galaxy and zelda twilight prices and I just don't see what people like, but then again different strokes for different folks.

i dont care about consoles, i care about the games, don't be a fanboy soriku :)

So do I (and price of course) :P

Btw...my uncle got an HDTV and a PS3 :o Want to see it soon. Too bad he bought crappy games for it (Kung Fu Panda and some basketball game...meh :/).

Well, what are you waiting for?! Buy Valkyria Chronicles now and play it at his house!!!

I can't even go to his house very often...not buying a $60 game so I can play it only for a few hours every time I finally go there :P Hope he gets it eventually though.

I know Soriku. I was just kidding.

I own and dislike the Wii because of a lack of quality in its titles.

This in turn caused many people to upgrade games like NMH and De Blob from being average/good games to being excellent games. Heck, I tried De Blob because of recommendations from this board, and whilst it's a fun little game with a nice premise, the controls aren't precise consistently enough for me to enough the game or vouch for a wiimote over the analogue sticks.

The only game thus far that's convinced me that motion controls are the future is MP3. One single game.

Also, I'm a JRPG fan and the PS2 has more to offer me in the last 2 years than the Wii has. Even Persona 4 alone is better than all the Wii JRPG's thus far COMBINED.

My only hope for the Wii this year is the new FF game and Fragile (in terms of JRPG's).

Sorry, going to have to disagree with that. You might not have found them as enjoyable as other people, but that's just your opinion. I enjoyed them a lot more than many of my PS3 games.

Nope, I've played and loved JRPGs for almost 2 decades and I really don't care for the Wii.

...are mainly Western gamers that play FPS/WRPGs most of the time? I can understand they say that...as the Wii doesn't have many quality Western games, while the HD consoles do. At the same time, the HD consoles don't have many games I want because most of them are Western games (quite a few good Japanese 360 games though, but there's some good Western Wii games, but the Wii doesn't have the bulk of them and the 360 won't have the bulk of Japanese games like RPGs I want) and I mainly play JRPGs.

Now, if you're a big Japanese game fan and say that, you're just being dumb and ignorant. But I can see where certain people come from when it comes to Western games,

The Wii Doesn't have Nomura games soriku.

but the ps3 have 2.

The difficulty of de Blob's controls have nothing to do with the motion controls. It's the design of Blob's jump and the movement of the camera that makes it slightly tricky. After all you only shake the wiimote, it doesn't even have a system of directional mapping. I love the game. The only thing I'd change would be the save system. You have to play a level right through to save and with my addiction to colouring and the challenges it can take well over an hour to finish a level.

As far as 'motion controls' in MP3, there's not many of them in the game. If you mean IR then there's a load of other games that have applied it really well, like Okami, Call of Duty: World at War, Pro Evolution 2008 and the like. So far motion controls are good in Wii Sports, Tiger Woods, Godfather, Boom Blox and a few more. Even Galaxy was enjoyable with the spin attack mapped to waggle.

@General comments: Anyone that says there are no good Wii games is a close-minded idiot. I don't want a PS3 or 360, but there's a lot of games I'd like to play. I just haven't got enough cash or time to own more than a DS and Wii.

Yes.

www.spacemag.org - contribute your stuff... satire, comics, ideas, debate, stupidy stupid etc.

I'm upset, in a backwards way, about the Wii's success (in Japan, as opposed to the PS3 in Japan) because I have a great HDTV, and I love Japanese RPGs. LO is awesome. TLR is awesome. ToV is awesome. VC is awesome. The 360 will never achieve acceptance in Japan -- god I wish SE would stop it with the 360 JRPG exclusives... its making the genre look bad, for HD JRPG sales in Japan.  The Wii JRPGs have a lot to live up to this coming year. If they are not stellar enough to make up for the 480p graphics, the Wii can kiss my wallet's behind -- because it won't see the money again until something *good* comes out.

I own practically every decent (and lesser) PS2 JRPG in existance.  I'm done with that gen.  If the Wii can't step up to the plate and hit some out of the park, its a disappointment.  Sadly, the real victim in this case is the Japanese dev house... who cannot afford to make games on something other than the Wii (because it is popular enough in Japan to support the genre, and the PS3 is not as much), and thus can no longer tell more grandiose tales than those of the past.

JRPGs may just be a dying genre, and the Wii merely the genre's future little white tombstone.  I hope that this year's 2009 Wii JRPGs shatter that opinion for me, because that's certainly the direction the JRPGs seem to be heading.

Gamers who don't like Wii generally:

1) Grew up with 3D games.

2) Are males between ages 10 and 25.

3) Like you said, stick to one or two Western genres.

4) Aren't attracted to new or weird games.

Strange little games always attract me, Parappa the Rappa, Mario Paint, the first Sim City, etc. Nintendo has them in spades this gen, both on DS and Wii.

I'd point you in the direction of XBLA or PSN for weird and innovative games. They certainly outnumber the amount of decent quirky games on the Wii threefold.

weird and unique games on Wii >>>>> better than weird games on traditional controllers...

try imagining Zack and Wiki on a traditional controller.... lame x2

I played Z&W and it would have benefitted greatly from using the nunchuck for control. You don't need motion control or IR to have innovative games, even though the PS3 does have motion control.

The Wii isn't as good overall because it doesn't have quality games in many genres.

I'm FPS/WRPG/ARPG/RTS fan ... and I really don't care about Wii at the moment. But who knows, I can always change my mind.
