Forums - Gaming - The official RE5 Demo impressions thread

I feel the co-op is way too tacked on, and ultimately draws me away from the game as a whole. I'll most likely pick it up on release day, but so far I am not impressed in the slightest.

It's a RE4:Wii with better graphics, worse controls and co-op. That's the really simple way to put it.

Regarding graphics and controls, I agree with you on pretty much all counts. The only thing which works well is the aiming, the rest is pretty bad which some people apparently like in a horror game. I have to point out that the framerate is very stable, which was rare in the other 360 games I played.

Regarding gameplay, I didn't dislike the AI as much as you did. I did see some zombies running in wrong directions, but I played through it a few times and it is not that common.

Regarding co-op, the most annoying thing is when you waste ammo by shooting an enemy your partner just shot (then you may miss as a result). This is not really a bad thing though. I wonder if co-op will get tiresome at some point during the game.

Really?...LT + LB for knife attacks?...that´s really retarded, but I can only imagine the final game will let you change that, eh...

But HEY...you mean that, unlike RE4, you CAN´T CUT CRATES AND BOXES???...HEY, that´s even more retarded.

You can cut crates and boxes, that I can guarantee. And it's not LT + LB in the default setting, it's LB + RT. Very bad.

No option to disable co-op ruins this game for me. Will not buy.

I only got to spend about 10 minutes on it and I'm not familar with RE4 but the control scheme seemed rather awful. It seems unusual that they would place restrictions on the control to create tension rather than creating tension through level design.

Everything else seemed rather nice and I guess I'll see whether the archaic control scheme grows on me with additional play.

This has me a little worried. I definitely had my doubts about Sheva when she was first revealed. I would rather not have an AI character wasting my ammo (I try to be very careful with ammo). I'm glad to see that there is co-op though.

Sounds like they should have taken some pointers from the guys at Dead Space. That game had some great controls (except for some people who needed to whine about the lack of a 180 degree turn button). I'm very anxious to try the demo (waiting on PSN) because I wasn't sure if the RE4 style controls would still feel ok after playing Dead Space. And so far, the first impressions don't bode well.

She doesn't waste ammo, for two reasons:

1. She chooses her shots pretty well.

2. You can request any item from her inventory, and she'll give it to you provided you have an open slot.

OT: I'm still loving it, and I STILL can't beat that asshole with the chainsaw

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Not only that but she also finds ammo boxes and sometimes gives them to you without even being asked.

I was very able to cut boxes and crates, which had ammo in them. Most of them were sitting on tables. I was also able to cut piles of fruit to find items too. But I agree the LT+RB will take some getting used to and awkward.

I got the same RE vibe - running out of ammo, running away frantically and the adrenaline rushing when the zombies are amassing. Graphics were very good with very fluid character movements and they really upped the gore in the body explosions! yay! The high point in the demo was definitely getting chainsawed after trying to escape the gate which requires a key. Fear you never forget indeed!

The game has successfully shifted its audience. The survival horror fans have been left wondering what is going on while the shooter fans won't be able to put this game down.

I am a big survival horror fan so i am somewhat let down by the demo. However I have run in to quite a few people that are going nuts over this game. These people like games like GTA4, Gears 2, MAdden, NBA Live, Army of 2...etc...

Mark my words...this game will do huge numbers in NA on the xbox 360.
