Sony Japan have unveiled four new versions of their handheld console, in the shape of the PSP Carnival Colors range.  Set to go on sale in Japan from March 5th 2009, the limited-editions will be available in “Vibrant Blue,” “Radiant Red,” “Bright Yellow” and “Spirited Green”, and be offered with optional color-matched accessories.

Functionally the new versions are identical to the existing PSP-3000, which comes in black, white and silver.  Sony Japan are staggering the launch of the new colors, with the blue and red dropping on March 5th while the yellow and green don’t arrive until March 19th.  No word on any possibility of a launch outside of Japan.

The Sony Carnival Colors PSP-3000 consoles are available alone, with just a 2,200mAh battery, priced at 19,800 yen ($223).  The PSP with color-matched accessory bundle, including a 4GB Memory Stick PRO Duo memory card, PSP pouch, wrist strap and cloth will retail for 24,800 yen ($279).  Japanese buyers will also be able to get the battery and pouch separately.

New PSP carnival color "Radiant Red" is getting bundled with Shin Sangoku Musou MULTI RAID, the PSP version of Koei's popular Dynasty Warriors franchise.

The pack will consist of the game, a MULTI RAID pouch on the Radiant Red pouch. The color was selected as "image color" for this bundle because it best captures the spirit of hack-and-slash Shin Sangoku Musou.

On sale February 26 in Japan.

Of course they did come out with bundle specific case colours and designs before but this is awesome.
I wonder if they'll ever be officially sold outside Japan?

Yeah, I wonder that as well. But, it's so easy to import these days - I think I'll get the red one that comes with Dynasty Warriors.

Blue one is nice, pity it is a 3000 model.

It's worth noting Dynasty Wariors PSP will be available one full week before the official release of 'Carnival Colors'.

I wonder DSi should counter with colours as well.

why dont NA get any of these colors? psp and ps3, its a simple yet great way to squeeze a little extra sales. heck i would buy a new color psp or ps3 if they came to this side of the pacific or atlantic...depends on which way you go.
