If you listen to the Sony Fan boys, PS3 has a lot of upcoming PS3 titles which will be released between 2009 and 2011 that "should" help PS3 hardware sales.

Whether that has any significance I won't get into, but it's obvious Sony hasn't gotten it yet. There are still two multiplatform titles sitting atop the PS3 charts that can be acquired on other consoles. The 360 is defined by Halo and the sales and public reception reflect that. The same can be said of the Wii and Wii Sports. The PS3 right now is reflected by a lot of titles getting good sales but no standout title, and COD4 and GTAIV sitting on top shows what the consumers on PS3 are interested in. Basically at the moment, the PS3 is the equivalent of a 360 without Halo 3. In a nutshell, PS3 needs Gran Turismo 5. It's always been the defining title on the playstation brand. |
You kinda contradict yourself here and your latter bolded statement is totaly incorrect , the XBOX 360 - Halo 3 doesn't = PS3 that would be like saying the XBOX 360 has everything the PS3 does + Halo 3 on top ...not true . The PS3's incentive is devided upon a range of games of good quality and apeal , exclusive titles which you won't find on any console.
It's not like the average gamer will be playing one or two titles for the life of their $200-$400 purchase . I don't know why such an emphasis is being put on particular titles it's the libary that sells the console indefinetley , individual titles for the most part only give short term boosts.

Enlighten me. You are saying that no games released between 2009 and 2011 will help PS3 hardware sales?

small corection :) Most EU analysts at least know europe has equal spending power.

Sony really dropped the ball big time by not having Gran Turismo 5 in the first 2 years of the console. We won't even see it this year. Absolutely retarded. It is THE PlayStation defining game (with FF and GTA, but yeah we know how that went) and it could have given them a big edge against the 360. In 2010 even GT5 won't matter anymore.

um that was every analyst, and don't even start on a fanboy analyst. what about the ones that have the wii and 360 somehow loosing consoles over tiem |
Everyone, every site, everything is Xbox fanboy/fansomething, if it doesn't praise the ol-mighty Sony & playstation brand. You know I am Xbox fanboy too just because I criticize Sony not doing it right this time. Even though I even haven't touched X360 ever. :P
And yes, its true that PS3 doesn't have 'must-own' title. I must agree with analysist. (Theres msg4, but its not for 'everyone'. And Gran Turismo 5(whenever it comes out), but its not either for 'everyone'. etc.)

I specifically said in my post, "whether that has any significance or not I won't get into", meaning I'm not going to vouch for the article, I'm just trying to understand what he was saying because a lot of different reasonings are being thrown out. The PS3 right now has no identity, or I should say it has far too many without any stepping up. That is because the PS brand's true identity has always rested on Gran Turismo, and rightfully so. It is a critical and commercial success, and has transcended past merely videogames into pop culture.
For you to take my 360 and PS3 comparison so literally is showing me you have no idea what I was trying to get at in the first place. I'm aware they have different games. I'm not trying to say that PS3 needs Halo 3. I'm saying it needs IT'S Halo 3. Don't you find it odd that the PS3 doesn't have one title that is more popular than two multiplats (going on three) you can find on two other platforms? Where is the identity there? The PS3 brand is still being represented by GTA right now, which is odd because it's no longer timed exclusive. Microsoft acquired a day and date with GTA, but they still managed their identity as the place you go for Halo. Sony has allowed Polyphony to take probably a little too much time with GT5 from a sales perspective. GT5 Prologue obviously took way too much of their time.

Correction unneeded (insert emoticon here), I was referring to North and South America.
By must own title does he mean "a game like Gears of War and Halo?"
Gran Turismo is a game that is guaranteed to help PS3 sales get a huge boost. IIRC, the release of GT3 is where the PS2 really started to pick up. Sony should do everything it can with PD to make sure that game hits shelves by the holiday season.
Killzone 2 has the chance to be that "must-own shooter", we'll see. But I think the PS3 has a pretty darn good catalogue with games in various genres.
