Great sales for the PS3 games and the play on wii titles.

Wii is very low in Japan. I am not very sure about Fragile effect in hardware sales, we will see next week. Last year Nintendo had launched wii fit in decenber and Super Smash Bros Brawl was going to arrive at the end of January, obviously the sales were higher.

Bad week for the PS3 and Wii when it come's to hardware sales.

By the way, how expensive is the Xbox 360 compared to the PS3 and Wii in Japan? The sales are still bad, but it hasn't lost so much ground this week compared to the others.

I'm not sure why is Wii so low though - this time last year it was outselling PSP (75,000 vs 60,000).

These are the numbers from the same week last year

Wii sold 79k this week last year (DOWN 48k over 50% drop OUCH!)

PS3 sold 35k this week last year (DOWN 16k just under 50% drop ouch)

360 sold 4k this week last year (UP 3k 75% increase)

PSP sold 73k this week last year (DOWN 25k 30% drop, nasty)

DS sold 90k this week last year (DOWN 9k 12% drop, could of been worse)

Meanings the 5 platforms combined dropped 95k on the same week last year, that is very very nasty coming out of the busiest few weeks in Japan.

and if anyone is interested PS2 fell from 13k to 7k (drop of 6k just under 50% fall)

Softs are actually better (it seems) than in mid to late 08. I usually judge by how many titles are over 10k, and what the number 30 titles is at (that way you can tell if the market as a whole is doing better, or if just a few titles are buoying sales)

most of last year only the top 12-15 were over 10k, and no. 30 was below 5k. This week the entire top 20 is over 10k. And number 30 is 7.3k...

Back when the whole market was strong... It was regular for the entire top 30 to be over 10k, many times no. 30 was as high 12-15k on a regular week.

Last year weekly sales seemed to be steady at 800k for a regular week, back in the day (PSX) weekly sales were closer to 1.5 million.

But this week is an improvement so far... hardware looks crappy though.



End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

Japan is falling back to earth.

Within a couple of weeks the two HD consoles will be in 4 digit territory and Japan will be again a non-factor in the global HD gaming market place.



Prediction made on 11/1/2008:

Q4 2008: 27M xbox LTD, 20M PS3 LTD . 2009 sales: 11M xbox,  9M PS3

I've been saying this for awhile, the Wii is the dominant console in Japan and sold 31k last week....yeah...
