So lemme get this stright..its hard to ignore a 20 million installed base..but easy to ignore a 50 million installed base.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

I believe, though cannot guarantee, that casuals buy less games, and even those few games are different than those on the HD consoles. On the other hand, there are already too many casual games so it's pretty difficult to stand out from the crowd.

Zkuq, if that were the case Wii would not have sold more software in 08 than either of its competitors.

No disrespect, but I call bs on that.

It's hard to ignore either a 40 something million install base which porting between costs relatively nothing and has very strong software sales combined with a much better understanding of the demographics wants and generally cheaper marketing costs due to the users more intelligence to brand name and gaming press.

And it's hard to ignore the Wii's userbase, as it's expanding, cheaper to make games on and seems to sell absolutely anything.

It's easy to ignore JUST the PS3 userbase though, obvs.

But yeah, developers ain't going to ignore the Wii and they won't ignore the PS360. What they do with either console though may not please everyone on here though, releasing games on both systems has upsides and downsides.

Now I haven't really observed this matter but judging by what I've seen, most games are either Nintendo and/or Mario otherwise + casual games. The million seller list seems to agree with me, mostly. Then there's a few proved franchises, too, but they're not too many.

Nintendo sold what like 90% of that software not 3rd parties.

Kyros gave a good argument for the PS3.

The only reason they'd pick the PS3 is for the following:

1) Money from Sony to develop IP 'moneyhatting'
2) PSN game which wasn't allowed on XBLA or WW
3) Multi-platform

Other than this, there are no real good reasons to make a game for the PS3. Exclusivity on the PS3 is a horrible idea, and the worst of the 3 consoles for such a proposition (bad install base, hard to develop for, poor software attach ratios).

However, as others have said, if your going to make a big blockbuster HD game, you NEED the PS3 to ensure profitaiblity - you can't ignore the ~20m users, as they will most likely buy your game at a 2:1 or 5:3 ratio against the X360.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Probably true...But I also recall reading in the NPD that Nintendo sold more THIRD PARTY software either during the months of dec and nov, or all year. I can't remember which.

Business is more than saying oh 20m to 50m we should go for this console. Whos the user base of the console? do they buy these types of games? in the case of the Wii, will the game run on it? is the wii mote good for the game?
