Huge amount of games for 2008, price cut. Sold 11 million. Now, a smaller amount of games. One of the biggest titles won't push consoles, because it comes out on the cheaper 360 too. Bad publicity, plus, terrible holiday as someone pointed out. Face it. PS3 isn't doing so hot.

So you seriously think that 2008 is the PS3's peaked year??

It will sell better in 2009, the PS3 was doing great in 2008 until the X360 had a big price cut around the holidays and took away a lot of PS3 sales. And the PS3 has bigger and better exclusives in 2009 then it had in 2008, did you by any chance take a look at "The Official Playstation 3 Exclusives list" for 2009 there some really big games in there and it's only January there still more to be annouced.

Also Japan is going to explode this year with the PS3, what with the new SKU FFVII Advent Children going to Japan, Yakuza 3, and Final Fantasy XIII it's going to be selling like hot cakes.

Yeh and the last price cut helped but it was still $400 and $500, still a lot, once they have another price cut this year it'll look a little more affordable, hopefully Sony will be able to afford a $100 price cut but it's doughtful probably $50.

you honestly think that advent children sku is gonna make a big impact LOL

I do agree though ps3 has far from peaked and I do think this year will be bigger than last.  But I also think it won't outsell 360 this year (and no i don't mean LTD i mean i don't think it will outperform 360's yearly sales)

^It'll be part of a big impact in Japan it won't be a huge impact when it comes out but it'll do good for itself thats for sure

The 360 came around after dropping the price to the sub-$200 dollars level and opened a major pricing gap with the PS3.

Without a price drop Sony will struggle to get to 8M sold for the year. It is clear that a price cut is not in the cards any time soon. My money is on no price cut for the year, but perhaps a newer model (and a fire sale of the old ones). But the $400 price point will stick around for a long time. Sony simply must start making some money in the gaming division.

And for the optimists: Even if there will be a price cut it will not touch the $200 range and it will be accompanied by a parallel cut by Microsoft so the effect of the cut will be neutralized. 



Prediction made on 11/1/2008:

Q4 2008: 27M xbox LTD, 20M PS3 LTD . 2009 sales: 11M xbox,  9M PS3

If it hits 299, then definitely. If it hits 349, then maybe. If there is no price drop, no way in hell.

Amirnetz - 8 million without price cut? you serious? so you think it would do worse than '06-'07 without 5 months on other sales no games and 100 dollars more?

The ps3 sold 2.33 million units after black friday with Jaans mediocre sales. I can assure you Japan wont be so slow this year even at the same price...

You only expect 5.67 units in 11months? laughable
