PS2 had tons of shovelware but I never hear anyone complain about that.

And fyi: You actually CAN play Gamecube games on your Wii, as it's the only console with FULL backwards capability. How's that for service?

 

Wrong. A 6ogb ps3 is...and this is the real ps3. Notice how all the ps3 downgrading came after Kutaragi's exit? You can play all the PS family games with this beast. Can you play N64 games on wii? My guess is no. I still play ps1 games so this matters.

In fact I can play NES, SNES, N64, Master System, Genesis, NeoGeo, C64 and Turbografix games on Wii. Obviously that just as irrelevant as you using a discontinued system as evidence.

Back to the point of the thread. The title was misleading, but it evidently didn't have enough space to make it clear this was just about US sales.

Either way, the fact is that in America, those systems are tracking similar numbers to the other systems.



A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Regional sales do matter. Take away Americas for 360 and others for PS3 and argue after that. Anyway, one regions sales doesn't show the whole picture, but success in one region may be make or break for the system, which was very evident with Xbox.

Other than that, there seems to be quite a lot of stupidity in the thread.

Yes, if you do the comparison in a way which unfairly favors the PS3 (due to staggered launches) then the PS3 looks better.

Looking at the marketshare for the PS2 and Wii, I shudder to think what the PS2 would have done has it released at this time where the gaming industry has grown so much.
