I can't believe anyone was expecting it sooner... it was still tentative for a Japan release in 2009, and the West gets these games months after Japan at best.

Agreed... I'm kind of shocked this is news to people.

Indeed. The funny thing is a mod and his lapdog (who i will not name) thought i was "ebarassing yourself" by saying it probably won't come out in 2009 only 2 weeks ago. The reality is Final Fantasy games take a longtime to make and as impatient as i am i'm glad they take that time. I would rather they spend the time on the game to make it the best it can be then rush it out simply to make as much cash as possible. If other devs followed suit a lot of games that sucked might have been a bit better.

The question is will the game really be coming out in Japan in 2009? Personally i can't see it. SE should take as long as it takes.

This is true. Blaming the PS3 architechture, not so much. But to say that the delay of this game has absolutley nothing to do with the 360 is also a joke. NO MATTER how difficult or hard the PS3's "architecture" supposedly is, Square will not be able to release the game when it is finally finished. There will inevitably  be a time when the PS3 version of the game is completely finished, and we are still waiting for them to port it over. Blame the PS3 architechture all you want, but hte fact is that you have absolutley no proof whatsoever of what the real issue is. You don't know if it is actually the PS3 architecture, but you are acting as if you are a part of the development team. I say if Square would stop wasting their time on pathetic side projects like IU and TLR, FFXIII should have released before Star Ocean 4.

This is extremely bad news to those of us who are dying to play this game.

So you are part of the development team and know how the porting is being scheduled in with the rest of the development? You can say "it stands to reason that they will be porting the 360 version when the PS3 localization is already done" but you have no more evidence than he does. That is to say an assumption.

You can find me on facebook as Markus Van Rijn, if you friend me just mention you're from VGchartz and who you are here.

Yea its true that the 360 could be potentially a delay for the game, but regardless the game would not have come out in the U.S. in 09' anyway.

The localization will have forced it into 10' never the less.

Anyone who thought this was coming in 09' was just dreaming, and ha at times when people thought this was gonna be an 08' game in 07'

360 port could be the cause of long Western wait for anticipated RPG.

By Steve Watts, 01/15/2009

Those hoping to play Square Enix's next blockbuster RPG may have to wait a bit longer than expected, as a Guardian report confirms that Final Fantasy XIII won't come out until next year in the U.S. President Yoichi Wada stated the game will release in April 2010 or later in North America, well after its scheduled 2009 release in Japan.

There's no reason mentioned for the long wait time between releases, but Square Enix has said that they're going to finish the PS3 version before starting on the 360, rather than developing the two at the same time. Since the 360 and PS3 versions are supposed to see a simultaneous release in North America, this could be the culprit for added development time to an already long-awaited game.

Of course, the 360 version will also be developed as the game is being localized, so it's hard to tell when the game would release if not for the 360 porting process. We'll let you know a more specific drop date as soon as we hear it from Square Enix.

Fanboys can try to blame MS all they like. The simple truth of the matter is that FFXIII is taking so long to release because of the PS3 architecture. When the game was announced for 360, the PS3 version had been in development for over 3 years. The swiftness of the games port to 360 will only serve to further the point.

Perpide, its called deductive reasoning. I don't mean to be insulting but FFXIII was announced in 2005. It's getting released 4 and half years after it was announced in Japan and nearly 5 years later in the West. Square Enix employees have already said the 360 easier to develop for than PS3. The PS3 architecture isn't "supposedly more difficult" it is more difficult. There have been a multitude of developers that have said as much.

Infinte Undiscovery is a Tri-Ace game. It has nothing to do with the length of Final Fantasy's development. Square Enix publishing the game was a last minute decision. MS owns the rights to the IP and they were the game's original publisher.

The Last Remnant was developed by the SaGa team. Square Enix has more than one development team. TLR has nothing to do with FFXIII's slow development. SE has pulled members away from the VersusXIII development team to get FFXIII out before the end of the year in Japan.

I'm not acting as if I'm part of the development team. I'm using common sense. Tri-Ace is smaller Square Enix and they will have developed and released Infinite Undiscovery and Star Ocean IV worldwide before FFXIII hits Japan. Like Square Enix, Tri-Ace developed their own game engine for Infinite Undiscovery and subsequently Star Ocean IV. Both Infinite Undiscovery and IU were announced after Final Fantasy XIII.

It's reasonable to conclude that the PS3 architecture is the source of the long development time of FFXIII. The development of the 360 version hasn't begun. Not only that the localization times of prior games in the series shows that an April 2010 for FFXIII would with in the norm for North America. On average it has taken over 6 months for Final Fantasy games to hit North America. It would be earlier than usual for Europe as the average time for localization is nearly 10 months for that region.

The only thing in your post I agree with is the very last line.

square just issue an asian version with english subs that all i need.
