They don't say much about the storyline and from what I can gather it doesn't seem like the narrative is strong at all. Giving the game a 9 despite the fact makes me question the integrity of the review.

the multiplayer portion must be pretty good then

good score so far, i'll predict  94% on metacritic

It doesn't matter. A game without strong narrative should not recieve a 90+ score. Narrative standards in games seem to be lower than for movies and books, and most reviewers and developers have been putting gameplay before storyline. That should not be promoted by essentially rewarding such games and developers with such high scores, forgiving major faults such as a weak plot.

But games are NOT books or films.  Should books and films be given low marks because they have very weak (actually, non-existant) gameplay?

Games are interactive movies. Storyline should come before or at least equal to gameplay.

Um...

I don't even know what to say.  =|

Lets's go back to basics then.. Movies = motion pictures. games =interactive motion pictures (images in motion that is interactive is what constitutes a game) i.e Games = interactive movies.

Last time I checked tag, tic-tac-toe, chess, it, kiss chase, didn't involve moving pictures that I interacted with. Similarly I wouldn't call rewinding a video tape much of a fun game.

So you don't play a lot of different games, do you?  I hope you have a PS3 for MGS...you have a very limited defnition of games, though.

Name a shooter with a strong narrative, lol.  I can't think of any since Half-life 2.  Maybe FEAR.

No offense, but a game without a clear ending and to which Valve has stated that they didn't know where to end it, but promised to give all the answers after episode 3, doesn't really qualify as strong narrative to me >_>

It was more of "let's invent something cool without really knowing where to lead it to and especially not how to end it..."

Just reading through this thread has me excited.

Good score, good review. Can't wait to see more reviews on the game, and how it will be recieved by everyone on release.
Even if the game somehow manages to turn out bad (which I think is highly unlikely), it has at least set a new technical benchmark for graphics.

Good for Sony and PS3. After the highly hyped and underserved Killzone 1, they had the potential of doing the same with Killzone 2 but with already good positive reviews, Sony finally delivers on a promise.

HL doesn't have a good story. It has a decent story that's told very well, and that shouldn't be discounted.

BioShock has an excellent narrative, but it's hardly a typical shooter. In fact, it's some of the worst shooting I've ever seen in a shooter. But it's still awesome, because it's different. In a good way. And you can shoot bees out of your hands.

Killzone 2 is a very different type of game. It's that kind of "zomgaliens" FPS where any time a character is about to say ten words in a row, a massive dropship lands and interrupts him (exaggeration). Much like Halo. Or, in a way, Call of Duty 4. That story was terrible. No dropships though.

CoD4's story was awesome.
