But it sounds like the early adopter phase is nearly over, like I said before I anticipate a cheaper slimmer PS3 for this year. Fingers crossed.

You never did explain to me the support behind your theory of a cheaper slimmer PS3.  I'd be interested in that.  But where is any information on such a thing?  Or support to believe it will happen?

Sony has already developed cheaper slimmer Blu-Ray drives, at CES 2009 a new smaller PS3 motherboard was on display, probably requiring far less cooling and thus a smaller casing.

it is not smaller, just reducing some ps2 part and some others.

if you see the image from CES, it is almost the same, the one at ces is for current ps3 model

if you want to made slimmer ps3 it is still a lot more to do

and compare to ps3, xbox 360 is more easy to made the slimmer version.

less component, no need for harddrive, no need for wifi,

please mike, do better next time

Y'know I heard some guy with a conspiracy theory about how he thought most of these kind of idiotic predictions that people will later use against every PS3 fan are actually made by alts of fans from other consoles to make the PS3 fans look bad. I didn't really give the theory much thought, but the fact that this was all started by an alt of Numonex makes me wonder how many other times it has happened.

Only problem is guys like MikeB reply with agreeing arguments for the OP.

Unless he's an alt account of someone - either Crazzy, Gballzack, or someone else.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Noticeably smaller, but not enough to make a much smaller model... We'll have to wait and see, although I would bet against the slim model coming in 2009... 2010-2011 seems more likely.

If only there was enough space in my sig to store all these great predictions...

This is the 40 GB (/80 GB) model motherboard lacking PS2 chips:

This is what was on display at CES:

This is the original PS3 motherboard design:

It has certainly gotten smaller and is said to be more efficient.

Agreed.  the motherboard size reduction is largely thanks to the removal of the PS2 hardware.  Further reductions will be less dramatic and will not free up enough space to warrant a new 'slim' model for quite a while.  Making the power supply external would be a bigger help than the motherboard reduction would be.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

At first I though you might be delusional, but then I looked at the number of posts on your account and realized this must be an alt account that you're using to provide comic relief. Well done.

@ FishyJoe

The PS3 did considerably outsell the 360 in Europe last year. The 360 is still a non factor for Japan.

Regarding 2008 holiday sales, I anticipated no economic problems like yen vs dollar exchanges, so I expected a worldwide PS3 price cut by October. I anticipated Final Fantasy to be ready in 2008. I also didn't expect the 360 to sell as low as 119 Euros including 19% taxes including free games, etc.

I have said this multiple times already. Yes not everything has gone according to plan, but for the long run I don't think it will matter that much.

I have listed the factors I consider to be crucial many times.

Am I figuring the numbers wrong?  From what I gather from looking at VGChartz data, the PS3 outsold the 360 by 400k over 2008 in Europe.  That is no where near you prediction.  But maybe I just didn't get the numbers right.

And I'm not sure that explaining factors that contributed to your prediction being wrong, makes your prediction any less wrong.  Though, I haven't thrown out any predictions myself.  Not that I could fault you for being terribly wrong in it, I may have done just as bad in any prediction I made, heh.

Like I said the pricing wasn't as I expected and I was hoping for some crucial titles to be released. Basically Microsoft shot its full ammo on Europe, while Sony decided to sit this one out for last year to reduce costs.

But IMO the more ammo fired by Microsoft in 2008 will weaken its position for the long run. I don't think they will go down much further than 119 to 149 Euros.
