That is why this guy said that that is their challenge.

:P I love a good controversy

Nintendo said they would drop out of the console business if Wii wasn't successful. The only way this little quote would make sense is if they never said that. Another piece of bullshit PR.
| theprof00 said: i understand the logic of using the GC, but why would you want to compare this systems lineup with one another system that was almost buried alive (I loved my GC, there is no animosity here, unfortunately mine was stolen with WW inside it and I was very very upset) |
Oh, that's easy. People are claiming Nintendo has ditched their fanbase for the "casuals," which is why these sorts of arguments usually come up. As long as their support remains as strong (or stronger) than their GC days, the argument falls flat.
I will say that with Q1/Q2 09, they may fall behind pace - but yeah, I'm still hopeful they can make it up by the end of the year. If I'm wrong, meh... then people can rub it in, but I'd at least wait until that time comes.
| theprof00 said: ^ I don't think so. It's been an object of argument since before the release of the wii. But now people are translating it as some kind of insult... gimme a break. I could find some quote somewhere saying that nintendo is aiming at non-gamers and not at the HD consoles from 3 years ago. I'm too lazy though, but you should count on a quote like that existing. This isn't PR spin, it's fan spin, but it shouldn't be. Being in a competition doesn't mean anything. They are doing well in their own market which just so happens to be gaming. Its like clothing stores. Limited Too isn't competing with big and tall but they make a lot more money. (I think) This is all because wii owners are afraid to admit that they aren't competing because they want to still be called gamers, even though they are obviously gamers. |
I think there is less competition between Nintendo and MS/SONY because of the motion control itself. Your argument is about games vs non-games (or gamers vs non-gamers). While the Wii may have a larger than typical non-gamer segment as its userbase the gamer segment is larger. Just because Nintendo has been targeting non-gamers with some key titles to expand its market, doesn't mean there aren't plenty of games they and others have released that apeal to actual gamers.
this is not what he means, but ok then, from now on it's "Wii VS consumer indifferent to games" for god's sake
also, if Nintendo is not competing then why the heck did they've shown the NPD graphs, comparing console sales at E3 2008, including Xbox360 and Ps3, tell me, why?
don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^
I still cant believe you are arguing over an OP that was clearly taking out of context the OP itself... read the entire OP. It is clear they are talking about the situation in KOREA
End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)
Wii- 72 million 3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases
360- 37 million Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak
PS3- 29 million Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

Oh dude I completely agree. The way it stands now, I do not want to support what is happening. However.... I can see the wii selling 150-200m consoles (including a wii1.5) at that point, devs don't give a shit about how much a game costs, and make whatever they want because even if only 1% of owners buy the game it still makes profit.
At that point I will have to buy one, but at this junction, I can't see a reason to back the Wii because I don't feel the games are there. As another note, I really think wii1.5 is going to need better graphics.

@theprof00
You asked to what gamers has Nintendo been catering for the past year, for me the last year is 2008. I gave a list of all the games published by Nintendo in 2008, I didn't leave out titles. If you ask me, I think they have been catering to just about everybody, they have games for new gamers(Wii Fit, Wii Music), game for their long time fans(Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Mario Super Sluggers, Wario Land: Shake It!, Animal Crossing: City Folk), games for people that might have stopped gaming and want to play games they have missed(GC games and VC games), games for those that want something new(Endless Ocean, Captain Rainbow, Art Style series), and this is without taking the DS in consideration, Also, you brought up sales for no reason. As bdbdbd said you are moving the goal post.

i just don't feel the same way you do. I think the games are lacking in quality, quantity, and substance, but that's my opinion.
Not enough features, too expensive, and consistency is spotty.
@darkghost and bigjon
I know, in my original statement I said "at least in Korea".
Right now I'm arguing against the interpretation that it means "we won"
