Eh. I'm skipping on Metroid for now. I still have yet to play any of the Prime games and I don't feel like starting at 3 even though I'm sure storyline wise, it wouldn't matter that much.

I'm also curious where this faith in MP3 comes from.
MP1 sold something like 2 million WW, and then considerably less for MP2. It's not that big of a franchise on the Nintendo scale. I'm not surprised Mario Party 8 is doing well, the series is popular even if it's not among gamers, so I don't see the logic of "Mario Party 8 is selling well, so Metroid Prime 3 must do better".
I would be willing to jump in and say that Brawl will sell over 1 million units in its first week.

Well, Wii sales are already about half of what GC were lifetime. Logically, a sequel of a game that sold well on an "unpopular" console should be able to push better numbers when it's the "popular" console. Of course, it still has to be a good game in its own right but better hardware #s should mean better software #s.
I personally don't think MP3 is anywhere near the category of Galaxy & Brawl in potential sales. It's one major advantage is being the first "real" game on the Wii (that is not a GC port) for hardcore gamers.

Don't forget that Metroid is the first game to be promoted directly on your Wii.
Any Wii owners connected on NintendoWC has received a message about videos.
It's the kind of promo that Prime 1 and 2 doesn't have. So yes Metroid has the potential to seller better than the previous games.

I understand those points. The issue I have trouble with is the fact that there was a significant drop off in popularity between 1 and 2, and it's hard to recover from something like that.

Yeah, you'd have to radically redesign the game to recover from something like that. New control scheme, or something, I don't know.
