Forums - Gaming - Well, I just beat Tales of Symphonia...

hey I'm fine with a scaredy cat main character, big wuss or whatever you want to classify emil as.

But I wish he would at least pretend and say manly things, i don't care if he sounded chicken saying it. Which as you go on he slowly does become like this. But it would make more sense to be like that from the beggining and by the end actually be badass.

I mean when a girl comes and thinks your a savior and wants you to protect her, you pretend in front of her that you are a man. Its just common sense. She will be able to tell that you are scared or not for real, but at least put an effort instead of asking her to protect you

His change is gradual, but I really like him at the end where he loses all his wimpiness.

I firmly believe that you shouldn't have to wait till the very end of the game for the main character to not suck.

I'm currently playing it, I think I have what, 20 hrs? I'm going to Tethe'alla's forest to do something I can't remember now... really shows what I think of the game until now :P the "funny" moments are not even comparable to Lunar and the serious parts are so stupid that it becomes funny :)

until now I say the game is GOOD. let's see if it improves or become worse.

the words above were backed by NUCLEAR WEAPONS!

You don't seem to have much else in your collection in the way of RPGs.

How experienced are you in the genre?

i need to get that game

are you asking me or him? :P

I was referring to c03n3nj0. I don't give lip to folks who play old-school Fallout, at least when it comes to RPGs.

Well, I only own 6 RPG's...and 4 of them are Mario games lol

I'd say I'm not that experienced in RPRs...

But i've been trying to get some more DS rpgs lately.

Tales of Symphonia is mediocre. It's overshadowed on the Gamecube by the Dreamcast port Skies of Arcadia as well as on other consoles of its generation (notably the PS2) by dozens of games.

Tales of Symphonia 2 seems like more of the same only where Lloyd was tolerable (if dumb), the new main character (Emil) is... kind of spineless. I'm not far in yet so I can only hope it gets better.

I agree - with the exception of the combat system, Symphonia really seemed and felt like an average, generic, paint-by-the-numbers JRPG, down to the standard sidequests, pointless powerup stuff and additional bosses from hell (that were actually surprisingly easy compared to other JRPGs). Also, the game was really stretched out a lot - there were at least three good spots where they could've had a solid ending for the game, but instead they had to tack on about 12 hours of filler fetch quests, pointless dungeon crawls and constant plot extensions.

And what the hell was with the sound acting? They managed to make Crispin Freeman sound bland and uninteresting, ffs. And Kratos sounded like he was constantly high.

I need to pick this game up. DotNW is definitely worth a purchase.
