You hadn't heard of the term hardcore gamer before this gen? Perhaps it is time to move out from under that rock now, it certainly did exist. The first part of your post makes you look even sillier btw.

Any form of gaming people go out of their way to play and get good at, as a purpose in life, is hardcore. Casual gaming is for people who don't take seriously and will do when they have some free time, or as a break from the rest of their lives, or as one of multiple activities people do with friends. Casual is pick up and play. Hardcore is master.

Using this definition, Rock Band/Guitar Heroes, and Chess can be seen as hardcore games.  This is the diplomatic explaination.  To be blunt, hardcore gaming is for people who don't have much of a life, while casual gaming is for people who do have lives.

I would say somebody who games a lot regardless of type of game.

imo. hardcore gaming is stayin up 14 hours a day playing a game. or spending at least 60 hours + on a single player game.

Hardcore gaming? It's an ugly term which causes ugly scenes, especially seeing as no-one will EVER agree on the definition.

hardcore are those who spend as much(or more even) time posting on online forums ABOUT videogames as they do playing them... O_o?
