Forums - Microsoft - Important trends in sales which might help us understand who will win HD!!!

However you fully know that the "elephant" isn't as big as you make it out to be. Both 360 and ps3 (soon) will have outsold the gamecube and xbox 1 in much less time. The market for HD gaming represents much bigger gaming pie than GC and Xbox 1 did anyways and are definetly worth discussing on their own terms...

Yeah that elephant isn't big at all, it just captured 50% of the market really quick, having much larger software sales and will be a bigger influence on the future of gamers and mainstream now.  Its no way as important as fighting the HD war because we all know, fighting on the smaller market and not making a profit is how its done.

Now excuse me I'm going to put my head in the sand.

In any case...if you want to discuss wii sales with the HD consoles, make a new thread. Have enough respect not to troll and spread the "Wii rules because it sells a ton...but I play my 360" awareness with every post you make.

How about, ""I play all my systems equally so I laugh at people who think otherwise?""  sounds good?

I think what Disolitude is trying to say is, stop trumpeting the Wii's horn because despite it selling a ton, it doesn't get those "industry leading" 3rd party games. Sure, YOU may get to play them, but that's because in order to you were forced to buy an HD console. But if you only had a Wii, you wouldn't be able to, despite it being this apparent "elephant" with 50% market share.

And in response to the first bolded....sure larger software sales....on games from Nintendo's first party. Abysmal sales from the COD series, NMH, Trauma Center, Zack and Wiki. etc aren't going to be a "bigger influence on the future of gamers" when similar games on the HD consoles sells millions

Anywho... we better see some Chartz Squilliam. As much as I love the good ol' graphs, this site isn't called VGChartz for nutin' mister!

Industry leading?

Time to check up on the sales stats, Nintendo are the industry leaders in software sales.  Not third partys.  The two most dominating platforms today are dominated by Nintendo.

So what does that mean?  The majority of people and gamers are buying *drum roll*  Nintendo software.  They themselves are the biggest influence on the future of gaming because lets face it they got THE MAJORITY OF CUSTOMERS.  We can toot our horn all we want on the HD consoles getting more third party support but in the end it doesn't really matter.

Nintendo won.  Its exactly, maybe even more sad to argue over secound place now than it was during the PS2 era because now in this case ONE company now literally has most of pie (pretty much the bakery) in gaming.

Once again, I like HD gaming.  But we gotta let it go and accept whats to be.

Well then have fun playing GTA5 or a Final Fantasy (proper) on a Nintendo console, since they're such a big influence now......

Bolded: The difference here is....the battle for second place still results in great 3rd party support, whereas the PS2 got all the support last gen. This time, the company with "most of the pie" can only get the likes of Carnival Games....

Dinomax,

Like it or not, a huge amount of PS360 owners don't care a rats ass about the 50% marketshare or whatever. We neither love or hate Nintendo Wii, we're indifferent.

For us it's all about the battle for 2nd place in this gen. That's where the excitement is, that's were the pride and dignity is and the 2nd place decides wheather we win or lose.

lol I love Dinomax's sig.

I'll still take the risk and Say PS3.

What diginity and pride?  Its just a bunch of nerds beefing on an internet forum.

I will if they are.  Just please promise me you wont turn into a raving lunatic like most people here did when Monster Hunter and Dragonquest went to the Wii.

I really hope you don't act surprised if the third party support picks up (which it is)  or Nintendo's next system gains most of the third party support because of the Wii.

If you consider the recent Nielson (spelling) study, the Xbox 360 is played about twice as much as the Wii in the United states per console. Since Nintendo games tend to have a longer life and the console is played less one would expect that from next year if software sales follow these trends that the Wii will pick up a lower % of software relative to the hardware market share percentage for the first time ever.

I know the current % of Wii hardware/software is ~1:1, but as the userbase ages I would expect this to fall more rapidly. As this is the real market third parties look at, it looks pretty obvious that the HD twins + PC will still recieve the bulk of attention from third parties even as the Wiis hardware market share goes above 50%.

Tease.

Awww isn't that cute your all acting like winning HD is actually going to affect this console war.

Wii is dead last, 360 is in first in the over 18 male demographic which is all that matters to me.

Just look at what types of games third parties are releasing on the Wii vs 360/PS3

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.

@Dinomax: Calm down.
WHEN all the major franchises go to the Wii (and they will), then you brag. Bragging now makes you sound fanboyish. Not saying you are a fanboy, but you're starting to sound like one.
