Forums - Gaming - 3D Gaming.. is it for you?

Now 3D gaming is nothing new.

My SEGA Master Systems has 3D Games with Glasses That Really Work. (Own one, still play it)

PC has had 3D gaming for years.

TV's have had 3D ready capabilities for some time as well. (Own one)

PS3 is getting into the act.

CES: Has tons of different companies showing of their 3D ready gadgets and such..

Now, I'm just starting to get into 3D movies and gaming...(other then when I was younger and played my Master System) but for watching movies and playing games in 3D..

I don't think 3D gaming has taken off because for a couple reasons..

People get an idea of 3D as if the image is clear as day, with not flickering, just a clear amazing picture..

Only to figure out that after some time, even after just little bit of time, you can get a headache, nausea, eye strain.. etc..

Also the cost, I mean prices rang from $150 - $399 just for 1 or 2 glasses, (If your going to use 3D TV's for movies as well as gaming the price can be a tad high for the whole family)

But now with more companies (like at CES) showing off their 3D capabilities it's going to get cheaper..

3D has been out for many years and never really caught on...

but do you think you will get into 3D Gaming? is right for you?

No it gives me headaches.

I TAKE NO SIDES

Maybe it's how it's used, but I viewed a 3d movie at an amusement park and I had a headache and my eyes felt strained and couldn't focus on anything for the next day.

I'd rather avoid it if the experience will remain the same.

I agree 3-D tech doesn't give me a headache but it's not comfortable to the point where I'll want to watch 3-D stuff.

I will certainly give it a shot. I think it will be more suitable for casual games/party games though. Which means suitable for 30min sessions and not for hours of gameplay. I think it adds extra value to your console.

I never really got comfortable with 3D gaming. I always felt most of the franchises that transitioned over were better off in 2D, Mario, Metroid and Zelda included. Plus you've still got great 2D coming out in the form of Muramusa, Viewtiful Joe, Alien Hominid, King of Fighters XII, etc.

Don't think so. Seems like a stupid gimmick to me.

@Onyxmeth: Not that kind of 3D!

Huh? What other kind of 3D is there? Ever since Star Fox and F-Zero started flirting with it, the new polygonal go anywhere graphics have been known as 3D gaming. You meant to tell me there's a completely different definition of 3D gaming that is forced to share the same name? How awful.

This kind:

Ohhh...I get it. You mean stereoscopy. I want to say it's a silly gimmick, but in regards to movies, it's the only thing getting me to go see that Bloody Valentine movie when it comes out, so maybe there's something there.

Please don't use cats as examples again. Cats are the devil.

Edit: Actually the evil cat glasses would be anaglyph imaging.
