Forums - Gaming - 3D Gaming.. is it for you?

I've always been curious about 3D, but never found an affordable enough means to try it out. I remember when I went on a field trip as a kid to Tennesse Aquairum there was an IMAX theater next door and was really wowed at the time.

I had a virtual boy, but that thing was literally painful to use, and the 3D effects in the games I had were very shallow. (Never had Teleroboxer.)

I haven't been following the news out of the CES, what 3D gizmos have companies been showing off?

Ohhh...I get it. You mean stereoscopy. I want to say it's a silly gimmick, but in regards to movies, it's the only thing getting me to go see that Bloody Valentine movie when it comes out, so maybe there's something there.

Please don't use cats as examples again. Cats are the devil.

Edit: Actually the evil cat glasses would be anaglyph imaging.

Sorry. It was my tribute to one of the console wars' greatest fallen heroes, Rock_On.

Yeah that definitely improved my VGC kill-death ratio.

we're still waitng for 4D sony.

I won't be jumping on the "3D" bandwagon simply because the glasses never are comfortable with my own glasses. And before you suggest me taking them off, I'm nearly legally blind without them so that's not going to work.

No, I don't think that 3D glasses are practical at this time. :)

yep and blu-ray formats for 3D are being planned.
3d is happening
The older systems often ran a 30+30FPS which causes headaches or worse the old Red blue trick but most of the new systems run 60hz+60hz so the flicker is reduced drastically and for many people this is perfect.
I think I will need a 90+90hz to totally eliminate peripheral vision flicker as will some other people.
Or the other alternative which i have seen and works great is polarised glasses they both work quite well.

3D is good and the nvidia 3d glases setup for PC is the best 3d system it works with hundreds of existing game titles using the depth buffer and a software hook in to generate L and R images instead of just one image it really can't get any better than that.

The HDMI standard can do 1080p 3D easily by sending 48FPS(24+24) or 60FPS (30+30) but games which run the premium frame rate of 50 or 60FPS at 1080P will need dual link or the new hdmi or will have to compromise frame rate for 3D - though 30FPS is still pretty good.

Yer the sony wipeout HD 3D demo is probably just a software hack similar to the nvidia system on PC's and no doubt drops the frame rate to a 30Fps - not sure which i would prefer 3d or 60fps at 1080p hmm ! give me both at 720P please.

It would be interesting if they could find a way for it to not give you headaches.

It does not cause headaches any more that is the point of the 60+60fps and 120+120fps and polarised systems they dont cause headaches. _notice none of the people reported any headacheds it been eliminated

Early old computer 3D displays ran 25+25 or 30+30 and yes they were a problem.

So once you get your new 1080P  TV in another 10 years it will need to be replaced with a 1080P 3D TV cause by then everything will be in 3D

I think it would fit better with a portable system as you don't USUALLY sit there for hours with it..
