yep and blu-ray formats for 3D are being planned.
3d is happening
The older systems often ran a 30+30FPS which causes headaches or worse the old Red blue trick but most of the new systems run 60hz+60hz so the flicker is reduced drastically and for many people this is perfect.
I think I will need a 90+90hz to totally eliminate peripheral vision flicker as will some other people.
Or the other alternative which i have seen and works great is polarised glasses they both work quite well.

3D is good and the nvidia 3d glases setup for PC is the best 3d system it works with hundreds of existing game titles using the depth buffer and a software hook in to generate L and R images instead of just one image it really can't get any better than that.

The HDMI standard can do 1080p 3D easily by sending 48FPS(24+24) or 60FPS (30+30) but games which run the premium frame rate of 50 or 60FPS at 1080P will need dual link or the new hdmi or will have to compromise frame rate for 3D - though 30FPS is still pretty good.

Yer the sony wipeout HD 3D demo is probably just a software hack similar to the nvidia system on PC's and no doubt drops the frame rate to a 30Fps - not sure which i would prefer 3d or 60fps at 1080p hmm ! give me both at 720P please.
