Forums - Sales - Square-enix We need 2-3 million sellers ... NOW

I don't think XIII is their primary concern, it'll obviously sell fairly well, though I'm sure it's development costs were extreme. I think their problem is with all of the little side projects that are selling 1 mill or less and not really turning much of a profit, if any.

Like The Last Remnant??? (IU doesn't count, the title belongs to MS, ) making it a timed exclusive costed them...

Eh, that's what they get for stabbing Sony in the back like that, right?

It'd be even worse on the PS3 system... if anything it shows WHY they are "stabbing sony in the back."

ironically the story behind WHY they are "stabbing sony in the back, had causing them badly needed 2-3M sellers.

Well done SE well done!! SE =/= MS

They aren't going to have 2-3 million dollar sellers on the PS3 either...

Lets look at SE RPGS on the PS2 that sold 2 million or more.

FF12

FF10

DQ8

KH2

So... 4 games... that rely on brandnames esablished since the NES era or Disney characters.

So... the problem is basically, these games cost too much to make new IPs anymore... now you know why SE keeps making nothing but ports and spinoffs.

Why should we believe ANY MS exclusive RPG would of sold 2-3 million on the PS3.

If they did get paid off... they obviously made the right choice.

How do you figure it would do worse on PS3?

So far a non S-E JRPG has outsold each S-E JRPG in Japan this gen for the 360 if I am not mistaken. Scratch that, it actually outsold every 360 JRPG in Japan far this gen. In 2 weeks no less. Not to mention with a low Famitsu score of 29/40 which had people on this site saying WKC sales will drop because of this. Hmmm, what if it got a 38/40 like TLR did?

So the reason they are stabbing Sony in the back is because 360 will bring them lower JRPG sales? Sounds like a stupid reason to me.

Everyone is claiming MS paid them.

So... SE has some cash in the bank right.

You can't claim "Oh they're buying exclusives"... then ignore that money when factoring in money.

So it's either

1) Cash payout + Less then the 2-3 mil we need.

2) No Cash payout + Less then the 2-3 mil we need.

Obviously to accept the Cash payout SE would have to expect that the money they were getting would be well beyond what the game would make on the PS3.

since FF13 was keep exclusive until recently most people that like JRPG have already bought a ps3.

Even if that was the case... there isn't enough of a userbase to support 2-3 million people per new IP RPG.

You could have had EVERY RPG fan who owned a PS2 own a PS3 and there wouldn't be enough of a userbase for that...  note the only games to have sold 2 million world wide were DQ, FF and KH on PS2.

and considering how much lower the Japanese userbase is in Japan vs the PS2s.... and JRPGs are like the FPS of Japan...

We can tell that isn't the case.

They can't get those sales.

They probably can't even get those sales on the wii.  They just need to make CHEAPER GAMES.

It's more like SE needs to get their heads out of their arses now >_>

Just announce KH3 , SO4 and versus as multiplats and you will be rolling in dough.

N64 is the ONLY console of the fifth generation!!!

Of course, lowering budgets so that sub-1 million sales would bring in adequate returns probably has not occurred to them as a viable solution. Let alone this crazy idea of making games that large numbers of people will actually want to buy instead of making games with the idea of selling lots of copies hanging over their heads during development. There's a world of difference between the two. Square-Enix shows a very inward-looking approach to game development these days, and that's not good...

Sky Render - Sanity is for the weak.

Final Fantasy CC: Crystal Bearers if it comes out this year (new trailer incoming w/Echoes of Time) and is a good game will do 2-3 million WW easy I think.

I think if they took Crisis Core: FF7, FF Dissidia, and Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep and enhanced those for the Wii they could probably rake in 1-2 million WW for each one of those titles.

That would be an easy way to make some quick money.
