Only PS3 fans say it should be free, when XBL gold offers more than PSN does, ill even go to argue that Silvers offers more than PSN does.

Silver are you serious, even though psn is not as good service as xbox live, it's way better than silver, since you can't play online, and you can with psn.

The facts are if 299$ dollar PS3 does have any significant impact on 360 sales, Microsoft is the company with tons of cash and they can easily counter the PS3, Slashing price of Pro/Elite would be a first thing, adding new bundles , Live membership , Netflix bundles (with some sort of free Netflix for few months). Slim model there are loads of options for MS until this generation is finished thats why i believe they will be on a market for a while.

I think the biggest reason why they wont move Live to free, outside of them liking the revenue stream it brought, is they would have to credit a whole lot of people who pay per year, or just plain screw them over, which wouldn't be good business.

The more PSN offers, then the more Live will have to offer to justify a fee...

Sony improving PSN forces MS to make Live better!

Sony doesn't get a dime for its trouble, MS keeps rolling in the cash, and 360 users get more and more features...

Joe Blow consumer wouldn't see much value in that unless it was explained to them. So while it would help, it wouldn't boost the 360 nearly as much as a $100 price cut would boost PS3 sales.

I agree.  I think including a game or some free movies would have more of an impact.

Microsoft can still do plenty. Right now they have the all important "wait and see" card since they are at the advantage and holding the momentum. They can surely drop the price $50 and would have a great impact. At $50 price drop, that would directly compete with the remaining PS2s. Even without a cut, they can bundle, offer free services or add-ons, etc. Their advertising is immense, so if the 360 has some new bundles or cost reductions, EVERYONE will know about it. Can't say the same thing about the PS3. One of the games you mentioned to move consoles, Killzone 2, releases in a little over a month, yet NO TV ads or cinema ads?

I think you are overestimating what Sony can do and underestimating what Microsoft can do. Plus, everyone knows MS releases most of their big reveals and KO punches at E3.

m$ secret weapon could be killer instinct 3,or maybe get blizzard to port over diablo 3 to the 360 only. both systems have good titles for this year, but gt5 hasnt been confirmed for this year . so u can count it yet for 09, and ff13 will only have a effect in japan this year. so no effect outside of japan. either way both should sell well, but if the economy stays bad for 09, which alot of ppl say it will then a $299 ps3 wont do enough for sony as m$ arcade does for it at $199.

The concept of a Silver Xbox Live membership being superior to PSN is pretty hilarious. It's borderline fanboyish too.

A SCEE executive confirmed that Gran Turismo 5 is on schedule to arrive in Europe during "Christmas 2009." That's not to say it can't get delayed, but that's an unforseeable circumstance and can be said about almost any game. Since Gran Turismo games always hit Japan first, that also pretty much confirms a Japanese release this year.

I don't see what your point against FFXIII is. It will only release in Japan this year, but Final Fantasy is practically a religion there and their games almost always make most of their sales in Japan anyway. When it's released there it will sell hundreds of thousands of PS3s.

If Microsoft doesn't drop the price of the 360 in Q4 2009 to match a PS3 price-cut of $100, I can assure you that PS3 will sell infinitely more, even if the 360 is still $100 cheaper. The reason for this is because the PS3 will open itself up to a vastly larger market, while 360 will remain with the same one that it has already been selling to for over a year. This is the exact reason why PS3 did so poorly in comparison to the 360 this last Christmas.

Superior is absurd.  But, outside of online play, why would PSN be better than Sliver?  Home?  Home is nowhere near all that yet.
