Forums - Gaming - How do you react to losing hours of progress in a game?

This often causes a moment of silence in me were my mind shuts down in disbelief. Then depending on the game or circumstances I will either hop right back in, let the game sit on the shelf for a very long time, or never play it again. Devil May Cry 3, and FFXII are the worst case scenarios. DMC3 was just stupid )&(^% hard and I tried and tried, but I just could not push my self to that level. When you play for 45min to get to a boss just to die and start again, that pretty much kills a game for me. On FFXII I was 67 hours into the game, and it had not grabbed me at all. I just kept playing because I did want to see the end. So I was on a stretch of about 4 and a half hours when the power goes out, and bam all was gone. I never saved becuase I was fine on health, and I was just cruising along. After that I never went back to finish the game.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

If I accidently turned it off without saving I'd probably just say fiddlesticks and be on my way. Its the game over after an hour or so of unsaved gameplay that reall chaps my bottom!

8th gen predictions. (made early 2014)
PS4: 60-65m
WiiU: 30-35m
X1: 30-35m
3DS: 80-85m
PSV: 15-20m

I've forgotten to save a couple of times. that just generally annoys me and delays me playing for a week. Now last time my save got corrupted, I put the game on the back-burner for 3 years before I felt like playing through it again.

I can't play games without autosave and generous save points anymore. If I have to lose any more than 15 minutes of progress by exiting a game, it's a game that isn't worth my time, to be blunt.

Depending on how much I liked the game, I either do it again immediately, get annoyed and don't play for a few days or weeks, or just don't bother with it again.

It happened to me just as I was landing on that lost planet in Kotor where you first confront Bastila--my save got corrupted, and I'll admit I actually cried a bit because I was so emotionally involved in that story. Good thing I kept the autosave, but that was still a few hours of lost progress. XD

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

I usually just brake the game in half.

Nintendo still doomed?

If it's something that's my fault in the game, I'm annoyed, not really angry.

If it's something stupid like I just turned the power off or let the game run out of batteries, I'm pretty angry.

If it's the game that throws a bunch of really hard fights between checkpoints or something like that and I lose at the last fight I'm absolutely livid.

like he said.

oh and relative to saves... I use 3 rotating I see no purpose for more unless it was before a cutscene (did that for FFs on PS1)

OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO

I would be very frustrated. Making serious progress in a game but not saving at all before shutting the system off would really bug me.

As sad as it is I usually just give up right then and there unless it is a really good game and I know I wouldn't mind doing it over again.

I think I took all I could handle when you take into account that I finally beat the original Zelda when I was 20 years old, first started when I was about 4 years old or so. Damn whoever would forget to hold the reset button when they powered it off!

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

I generally stop, play something else for a few days, and come back if the game's worth it. Usually is, but nowhere near always.
