Forums - Nintendo - The "Forgotten" Gaming Demographic The Wii Has Recaptured

How about this... Its a huge rip off for people that have owned those games before. People that have never heard of them or play them before can justify spending that much...and rightfully so as they are great games.

When I moved out of the house, I left behind nearly a hundred NES title and dozens of N64 titles, on top of a few SNES games and a smattering of Genesis.

The Virtual Console is allowing me to rebuild my childhood legally, and for cheap.

I was going to say arcade gamers. House of the Dead and Ghost Squad have done great numbers.

yea, them too. For them it is really a great deal. They can have infinite arcade gaming for 20-30 bucks, that is why I think that those hunting games "could" be undertracked here, for one people dont pay attention to them, 2, they seem to be pretty popular at arcades.

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

It is a rip off, well, at least to me. Maybe some people just have more money to spend on these things. I also never get the it's better unchanged argument, surely if they offered the game as it was originally, but also added extra features like online or optional better graphics... it'd be okay?

But yeah, the other thing that gripes me is people who throw around the whole illegal argument. Yeah Roms are illegal, but of the people who seem to keep bringing up that how many of you can honestly say you've never downloaded an album or film?

I have never downloaded a movie or music.

I have played SNES roms back before there was no other way to play them.

Why is it a ripoff? Because the game is old? Because you bought it on a previous system?

When you bought a movie on laserdisc for $40 in the early 90s, did you feel you were being ripped off when the same movie was sold on DVD for $30 6-7 years later?

Gimme a break, these VC games cost $50 or more back in the day, and the best of them are so timeless they give the same value as any new offering. $5-10 is dirt cheap for classics like Sonic the Hedgehog, Super Mario Bros 3, Ocarina of Time, Super Castlevania, etc.

If you think it's too expensive because you already own the game, go blow the dust off your old system, it probably still works.

The VC would factor into my decision to buy a Wii, but I would like VC more if it offered more games that were never released in the US or that were released in the US but not on the most popular consoles. I would like to see Emerald Dragon, Snatcher, Magical Popful Mail, Lunar I and II, and maybe Policenauts be a part of VC as they've never been released in the US before.

I don't know which systems you owned but I had all 4 for my sega CD at some point of my life.

Well, earlier in my post I also said that were released in the US but not on the most popular consoles.  And, the Sega CD was probably more popular than some others that have come and gone.  Still those games didn't reach as large an audience during the 16 bit era as SNES and Genesis games and I would like to see them come to the Wii and Virtual Console.

These games were never released in the US (Dracula X -- it was on PSP but it was more of a remake and I've heard it didn't look as good as the PCE version) Far East of Eden, Emerald Dragon, the Dragon Warrior games V and VI (they are on DS but you can't play DS through tv as far as I know), Seiken Densetsu 3, Treasure Hunter G, Bahamut Lagoon, The Creation of Heaven and Earth, Policenauts, Mother 3.

These games were released in the US but on Sega CD:  Lunar I And II, Magical Popful Mail, Snatcher.

I think they would all be good additions to VC.

Heavens to Murgatoids.

Wow some people must always come upp with crap that they can spew up on Nintendo, sad really sad...

Rip off?? give me A F-ING break.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

"Many of the people who liked SMB, Excitebike, and Duck hunt becamed turned off when games grew into complex monsters. The Wii brings back that simple fun that has been really non existent in the last 15 years or so."

You are entitled to your opinion, but I tend to disagree with that statement.  I don't believe that at the end of the NES era, 75 percent of the gaming population turned their heads and gave up on gaming...especially not because it got too tough.  When it came to NES games, compared to what was available at the time...they were the most "complex monsters" of that era and people weren't discouraged and left gaming.  On the contrary, they flocked to them like crazy as sales numbers prove.

Case in point = the depth/challenge/controls of smb, metroid, megaman, blaster master or battletoads (damn that was tough) vs. asteroids or defender or centipede.  Obviously folks werent turned off to the new difficulty level or control schemes then.  People grew into those games and as each generation has led to new innovations, people have been ready for and adapted to those innovations and new challenges in gaming.

I do feel that the VC and WiiWare are awesome tools, and offer newer gamers the chance to play some seriously great titles from the past, as well as us older folks to relive our youth.  (and I also think that for the most part, they are well worth the money per title for the chance to do so)

my 2 cp's at any rate,

I'll second that

I agree that a lot of the Wii games hark back to the days of simplistic gaming. I don't mean difficulty levels, i mean pure, simple gaming fun!
