In less than 2 years on the market it dwarfs any other consoles game library for that short amount of time.

The Dreamcast was a really cool console with a lot of innovative features as Internet modem with Internetbrowser, Visual Memory with Mini Games and so on.

It had impressive games, which were unmatched at that time (even if they got converted later on). Whoever played Soul Calibur, Virtua Tennis or Shenmue at launchdate knows what I am talking about. Not to forget pearls like seaman, the fishing games (with fishing rod) and samba de amigo.

Also it was the first console with a wide homebrew scene. You can get emulators for nearly all the 8 and 16 bit consoles on the Dreamcast. You can play the old Lucas Arts Adventures via scumm and it is even capable of emulating the PS1 (some titles).

So yes, in my opinion the Dreamcast was the best console of that time. But of course it doesn´t stand a chance against todays generation or even the old Xbox.

hmm... I also owned a DC (and still own it - it's broken though :(), and I have to say, I loved it as well. Maybe it wasn't the greatest console ever, but there was just a... "special vibe" about it... a feeling that I didn't get from any other console Can't even describe exactly what it is that made it so different, but it's really one of my favorite consoles ever.

Sega were ahead of the curve with the Dreamcast. That (and Sony's ridiculous marketing campaign) was their undoing.

Since I'm mortal I only have so much time to play games, so trust reviews every once in awhile.  I've never played a Dreamcast, but I have played most of the games because they came out on other systems. What poorly rated DC game is actually good?

Playing Sonic Adventure in 1999 is much different than playing sonic Adventure DX on the gamecube in 2003. Same with pretty much every hit that dreamcast delieverd 2-3 years before they were proted to PS2xboxGC.

There has never been a console that crammed such a high amount of top notch titles in such a short period of time. I enjoyed the Dreamcast more than the PS2, Gamecube, and X-box. I wouldn't call it the best of all time but it's damned close.
