Zuburi: "How can something that's free be the "best-selling?" Is the USB cable in the ipod box the best-selling USB cable ever?"
Very astute observation - the title should be changed, as it's not nearly just semantics. The way it's worded implies that it's the most sought after or desired product given the choice of all others, when in all fairness the consumer had no choice. I think we should differentiate between the pack-ins or 'free' games and the 'best-selling' games. It should read 'most owned' game.
Maybe I'm being too much of a pedantic asshole??

Well, Wii Sports (nor the iPOD cable) are free. If they were actually free, you could just walk out of the store with them without paying anything for them and not end up in jail.
What they are is 'included'. The question becomes "did their inclusion help sales?".
I would say for the Wii, including Wii Sports helped sales a lot.
HELFUL pack-in's:
- Sonic the Hedgehog with Genesis in 1991
- Super Mario World with SNES in 1991
USELESS pack-in's:
- Keith Courage in Alpha Zones with Turbografx in 1989
- SUPER BREAKOUT with Atari 5200 in 1982
