a sony price drop will have ahuge effect but you know why they wont beat microsoft? because microsoft will be trying to hold on for dear life and will even go as far as to make the 360 $50 just to stay ahead. im serious.

Why do people assume Sony will definately act first? Since Microsoft knows Sony has to cut the price, they could very well move first in the United States and make Sony look like the followers rather than the leaders on price. Its a very aggressive action, but it wouldn't put it passed them and say they won't do it.
If they move early this year it would signal their intentions to enter into a price war with Sony, one which Sony can ill afford. A $25, $50, $50 price cut would mean that any price-cut Sony would do would have already been matched before it happens. They could declare as much officially and say that any price cut made by Sony would be matched $$ for $$ by Microsoft.
Tease.
| jlauro said: You are comparing year 3 of 360 to year 2 of PS3, which isn't exactly fair. Here is a year 2.5 year graph that shows the PS3 isn't doing that badly (yet). Of course if things don't improve in the PS3's next year like they did recently for the 360, there might be a problem for the PS3... Not saying the main chart is unfair... just that launch aligned, the PS3 is still doing ok. |
that graph is tricky because the end of the line for ps3 is christmas season and x360 isn't.
I know... my english sucks

The launches aren't aligned, it starts at the PS3 launch so they end at the same time.

For some odd reason most people Sony fanboys don't assume that MS can also do price cuts let alone do one first.

they end in the same week of each console but not in the same date. If ps3 and xbox360 were been released in the same month then they would be really aligned. Sales just grow faster in christmas season so the graph is tricky.
Still like this, ps3 has better performance than xbox360 in ps3's weeks of existence (in relation with the same number of weeks for 360), i'm just saying that the graph is tricky so read it carefully.

I am so tired of this one year ahead launch argument. 360 was pretty much written off to be dead system as soon as PS3 launch. People were predicting PS3 to stomp 360 out of the gate and out sold it in months time. The fact that this didn't happen especially after 2 years, price drops by Sony, winning HD format and release of must have games is probably more telling how not winning PS3 is this gen.

oh lol, I'm an ass. You're talking about the link which I didn't bother clicking. I thought you were talking about the graphcs in the OP.
@ Launch alignment:
I beleive the Xbox 360 christmas was better last year than the PS3 did this year. We won't see the extent of the damage for another couple of weeks when the regular numbers throughout the year start coming in.
@ Twesterm:
Funny stuff!
Tease.
Ahh the graphs. Visual aids are so helpful.
