Italian videogame scene is shallow compared to other european nations like France, Germany or UK.

Our two biggest publishers are 505 Games ( who has a great sucess across Europe with Cooking Mama ) and Black Bean Games ( racing game S.C.A.R. developed by Milestone ).

The most famous italian studio is probably Milestone from Milan. They are specialized on racing games and their most acclaimed game is probably SBK 2000/2001 for PC published by EA.

Here in Italy there is also an Ubisoft division.

Althought not famous abroad, italian development achieved some impressive result ( from a technical point of view ) in certain systems :

7thSense developed the graphic adventure The Fish File for Gameboy Color in 2002 ( published by Microids ). Like you can see the result is impressive for the weak Nintendo handheld.

Naps team most famous IP is Gekido ( beat'em up ) and their effort on Gameboy Advance with Gekido Advance is quite stunning.

Raylight Studio from Naples became famous in the media  when they unveiled their 3D engine for GBA know as Blue Roses Engine. To demo its capabilities they recreated some scenes from famous PS1 franchieses like Wipeout, Resident Evil and Metal Gear Solid.

Wing Commander Propechy ( commercial game published by EA ) for GBA

One of the most beautiful game for Amiga , Fightin' Spirit ( 1996 ), was developed by the italian LightShock Software. A NeoGeo inside the Amiga.

That's it. There are other cases I should cite like Simulmondo but I have already wrote enough

Hang on, there are more video game companies in the UK than Japan! I assume that must be because there are quite a few small independent studios and Sony have at least 5 UK studios. Canada is too low because 2 of those companies are Ubi Montreal and EA Vancouver which are huge. Japan also has SE which is huge, and probably just counts as one, and Nintendo must be under represented
