Forums - Sales - Why does some people fear/hate the Wii?

I don't care for the wii because my brothers friend brought his over and even with component cables it looked like crap on my HDTV. Not PS1 bad, but pretty terrible nonetheless.

You don't like the it, fine. But is it a threat to you? Is that little machine with no HD graphics going to be the cause of the end of the games you do like?

Now that I have a Wii I actually dislike what it has done even more. Sure we have some fun with it, but the truth of the matter is the Wii should have simply been a new controller for existing systems. Motion control is all that came in the box. We have WiiFit as well and my wife enjoys it, but again it is the board not the Wii console that made it possible.

Fact of the matter the console itself is a downgrade in this generation. The controls are new the console is old. That has an effect on the games developed on the other consoles because of the high sales of the Wii.  Some people moan and groan about the use of CGI in movies over minitures for a great deal of special effects. How would the artists and special effect houses do things if all of a sudden they were told well to support the dominant movie theaters you need to go back in time and stop using the technology now available to you.  I feel the Wii does that to developers. As a software developer myself and manager of developers I hate and my team hate to work on things that are legacy.  The Wii console to many game developers is legacy.

As for crashing the industry I feel that it is more possible that the Wii will cause a crash rather than stop a crash. I worked for a retailer when the industry crashed in the early 80's and the reason was dumping of crap software on the market.  Well the Wii is the console that is getting crap software dumped on it.  The Wii is the console that has software sold at the checkout lines at Target, Walmart,etc. for $10-$20 bucks.  What happened was in the early 80's this became the norm and bam all of a sudden people stopped buying the crap and the good stuff suffered as well.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

But you know some basics about market economy, right? I mean, all I am saying is the more consumers, the strongest the industry along with more competition and better products. So everybody wins!

You want more technology no matter the cost? What about PC gaming?

And about the controls, hell yeah, I think the next generation all the consoles will have the option of motion sensitive controls and the Nintendo Wii2 will sure be HD, but affordable. Just be patient!

This is a subject we've all been over a trillion times before. And it's never gonna see an end.
Wii's expanding the market, and all the rabid HD fanboys suddenly realize the 'casual' demographic is infinitely larger than they are. Alas, they fear shovelware-wagglefests will threaten their manly hardcore HD games, and their snobcore way of life. They fail to see the industry's actually growing, and those casual games are being released alongside their burly brownish-gray FPShooters, not instead of. Ah well.

i think he explained it best not everybody likes this new form of moition control

that was funny

@Wii_R2_Hardcore,

Why should I wait? Actually I believe MS/Sony should no longer wait and simply release a motion controller for the 360/PS3. After all the Wii Console adds nothing. The controller add's something. We have 3 or more years left of this generation and that is plenty of time for motion controller games to be successful on the 360 or PS3.

Actually more consumers can also be a problem. They can be fickle and thier exists the possibility that they may simply move to something else. Now I am not predicting a fad/crash, but many of this new consumers will never be avid gamers. This also means that they may not be in any hurry in 3/4 years to upgrade. Hey they are ok with Wii graphics as they exist today why ever go HD. I know several people that have Wii's but also havent changed to a DVR over a VCR for timeshifting of television.

it's partially a rail against the people who think all the developers should shift their games to the Wii and the fact that good Wii games that they would actually buy are putting out shitty number. Core gamers don't hate the Wii they hate the worst possible outcome if the Wii should gain to much marketshare.
