Forums - Sony - I finally understand Sonys 10 year plan!

@Forevercloud: There isn't going to be a WiiHD. WiiHD would most likely kill one of the advantages that Nintendos next generation console has over Wii. Basically if WiiHD would be a peripheral used to upscale Wii games, i could see WiiHD being a remote possibility, but as an internal upgrade it's highly unlikely to happen.

Sooooo you are saying that the Wii will technically match the PS3's 10 year plan with tech that was outdated even for THIS generation? I won't say it is impossible, just HIGHLY unlikely IMO.

There was an article posted here in the last month or so that had Miyamoto discussing Wii HD and from what was said in the article Nintendo has plans to release a Wii HD at about the same time that the Japanese TV industry primarily switches to using hd signals in 2010 or early 2011.  In the article, I believe Miyamoto is quoted as saying that you do have to keep up with technology.  I believe this Wii HD much like the GBA SP or DS Lite will be the same Wii just with the added ability to output HD signals and will probably put the Wii back at the $250.00 price (possibly following a price cut for the original to come within the next year or so).  I believe Nintendo's next system after Wii HD will be Wii Advance or Super Wii.

Edit:  Since the Wii is doing so well, I don't expect Wii Advance or Super Wii until 2014.  For those that doubt they can keep the Wii going that long just look at how long they kept the original Gameboy going as the top handheld on the market despite the fact the display was in green and black.

Edit 2: http://www.nintendoeverything.com/?p=6119  A link where Miyamoto gives mention of keeping up with Japanese conversion to digital tv the page isn't as attractive imo as the vgchartz presentation of the article.

Techonology has never won console wars.  It has always been the amount of new experiences offered by the console that wins it.  NES won due to new gaming experiences never experienced at home before (such as arcade ports, etc.)  Genesis/Megadrive refined that experience hence was able to steal some market share from Nintendo however the SNES was able to offer more of these and better in the end hence it won.

The PS1 offered new 3D worlds and a whole not of new experiences through its shear number of software.  PS2 is to SNES as PS1 is the NES.

The technology of the PS3 is designed to offer the same experiences of the PS1 and PS2 albeit in a more refined, more beautiful and more expansive way.  The Wii's technology offers gamers new experiences in interacting with their games.  In that regard, it is the PS3 that is technologically backward.

Okay, but is it any wonder then that the people that were looking forward to much more refined, much more beautiful, and much more expansive games this gen would be at least a bit anti-Wii?  Especially, if the Wii due to its marketshare was to start gaining some of the games those people were looking forward to the most this gen (eg. Kingdom Hearts III), and then started putting them out as games that in some ways were much closer to what last gen consoles could do than what they were hoping systems like the 360 or PS3 would be able to do?

Isn't this just a bunch of hoping against hope?

*I hope that the PS3 will become a viable platform.*

*I hope that the PS3 doesn't become irrelevant when the next generation comes.*

As it stands the PS3 is going to be down YOY between last year and this year and on the famous third year no less. Its pretty rich to be talking about 8 years from now when the platform itself will die off with no intervention from Sony.

Well, the Wii sure sells a lot of consoles. No one really knows why. It has had very little to with the quality of its software so far because looking at the places that are supposed to be the best judges of such things, the Wii's software library aside from four or five games hasn't been that impressive and it certainly hasn't been any more impressive than either the PS3 or 360's library in any way. It doesn't have to do with price either because the Wii isn't the most inexpensive console on the market and it does sell well at an even higher price on ebay.

I don't know why casual games sell as well as they do. It strikes me if people wanted to bowl or play ping pong, then they would go to a bowling alley or find a real ball and ping pong table.

Hopefully something will come along to change the situation or when for some reason the situation changes to where the consoles and games that actually deserve to do well will do well, but if that doesn't happen, then it doesn't happen. Not much can be done about it. Heck, maybe one of these days Nintendo will come out with a quality console and / or quality games like they had in the SNES era, so it might not even be that much of a big deal.

Or maybe, just maybe, we're not 40 million retards and Nintendo has come out with a quality console that puts control and gameplay above pixel count and gives a lot better experience than playing the same old uber-violent game in it's umteenth reincarnation whose tired old story line hasn't really changes since the SNES as have not it's same fumble fisted archaec hand controller - both of which we are not supposed to notice because we are dazzled by the pretty pictures.

And by the way, the places that are supposed to be the best judge of the quality of the games are your own brain. The reviewers will always like the types of games that made them succesful enough gamers to get a reviewing gig.

And yes I play some casual games including Wii sports and I enjoy them. Yes I could drive 30 minutes to a real bowling alley but since I use it as a 10 minute muscle stretcher, that would be self defeating. Of course,  those used to years of gaming sitting on their ass on the couch might fail to see this. Also I suspect that if i tried racing a giant Ape aound inside a shopping mall on motorcycles, the manager would probably get all pissy or something.

First paragraph:  I don't think the storylines are tired and old.  GTA IV for instance has a great story and great music.  Cry by 10CC, The Stooges, Smashing Pumpkins, Fleetwood Mac, The Sisters of Mercy, Ace Frehley with "Back in the New York Groove", the Allman Brothers, "Shikki Shikki" all adds up to a terrific soundtrack even though many people that must not be able to tell good music from bad try to say that it doesn't.  And I guess I'll have to try to play a thirty to fifty hour action adventure game or rpg game on a Wii to know if the controls are really that much more comfortable than gamepads for that purpose.  You indicate in your post that you play Wii most often as a muscle stretcher for about ten minutes at a time but that is quite a bit different in duration from trying to play an FF, GTA, MGS, or even Zelda game to completion on it.

Second paragraph:  Not really.  I don't want to walk in Game Stop buy a $50.00 to $60.00 game just because it is sitting on the shelf, then get it home, open it up, put it in the console, have my own brain tell me that I've wasted my money, and then try to take it back and have Game Stop say, "Oh, sorry, we can't take it back because you've played it."  This isn't the early eighties and the purpose of review scores is to let you know which games are worth spending your money on and which games out of similar games deserve your money the most.

Your first paragraph. To each his own, I suspose more or less gratuitous urban violence is never been my idea of great entertainment but for all that I did not think that GTA4 could be really considered even equal to San Andreas lrt slonr sny giant step forward. I'll concede the music score as it is to me irrelevant since I would have prefered listening to one of my own mp3 playlists to anything I heard in the game.

I did not say I used the Wii for ten minute breaks, you were questioning the purpose of bowling and ping pong minigames and I was expressing that I liked them for brief breaks.

If you find the often forty number spread of the game scores useful, so be it. Prince of Persia; Game Pro - 100, G4-60, what in hell am I going to get from that. With the availability of videos, rentals and game play forrums I find the Metacritic magic numbers less than helpful. Actually reading the reviews is sometimesbetter but so many cannot write, prefer to see how clever they can sound to actually being informative , or taste in games is divergent that I also find them mostly useless.

As it stands all of you have little clue about what you post. Rather then acting like wanna be analysts LMAO please don't stop i love the foolishness and how seriously you all take crap that has nothing to do with you and your life.

Try some basic logic

Price now and time till it hits potential 100, at its fastest it wont be for another 3 years. That's a good easy 6 life cycle right there.

Most big title not out till 3/4 year compared to PS2 having it big hitters out in its second year.

Slim version maybe late 2010

Sony is in no shape to rush its next console to market, they must take their time with this one.

You might have had a point if your post had ended there. But when you go on to play analyst yourself, it's called iron...something.
