Forums - Gaming - HD: LCD or PLASMA - which is better for gaming? what do you use!

No doubt plasma. And as far as power consumption, if you have it so bad that you gotta watch how much power your TV is consuming then maybe you shouldn't be making these kinds of purchases. It's the same logic as ordering a diet soda with your big mac meal and thinking you are doing the right thing.

I just bought a 40" Sony LCD TV, it is the W series and I would recommend it to anyone (I did get a very good deal). The Sony brand is the main reason I chose LCD, though I must admit I did not look into the whole plasma/LCD. Downstairs we do have a plasma, and we have had some issues with burn in, but they seem to go away quickly after turning it off

Most plasmas last 100,000 hours. LCD lasts 60,000 hours. I dont know where you folks are getting the info that LCD outlasts plasma.

Incorrect.

Original plasma's lifespan was 20,000-30,000 hours (until gas runs out)(can NOT be recharged currently)

New plasmas lifespan is around 50,000 - 60,000 hours (until gas runs out) (can NOT be recharged currently)

LCD's last about 50,000 - 60,000 hours (or until backlight blows) (Backlight replaced and good for another 50k-60k hours)

So yes, currently LCD's outlast plasmas indefinately and will do so until plasma's can be affordably be recharged.

I use a 42" 1080p Toshiba Regza LCD and the picture on it is fantastic.

Uhm, this again? This has been debated to death in here and the general consensus each time is; LCD!

I use LCD, but I just hope in the future LCD will finally get a true Black :)

^_^

well i cant wait for my new set to arrive now, ive spent a good deal reading up on the 2 formats, both are good, but plasma is cheaper to buy, and im happy with what ive bought.

my 32" bravia lcd will now go upstairs where the 360 is, and samsung 42" downstairs in my game room(cough cough front room)

ps. if anyone has the hd-dvd player for 360 get "the thing" on hd-dvd its flipping awsome to watch.

See threads have this thing called the "original post", and you're supposed to read those, preferably the entire thing.

Yes, I read that part of the OP and laughed my ass off. You shouldn't believe everything you read on forums.

Your average plasmas nowadays are 50-60K hours with best models being 100K hours to half brightness.

Here is an example...

I don't think they will bother making plasmas rechargable since OLED is coming and will replace both LCD and plasma. However you are right...if you really like your television and are a handy electronics person you can make the LCD last longer...if you dont mind a few dead pixels.

Did you notice the screen resolution is only 1024x768?
