LOL a fake gamer or a Wii gamer comes in a Sony question (which I should of posted in the Sony Discussion Forum) and of course says "No" with no relative explanantion..now thats funny. |
In fairness, it is a "yes or no" kind of question (though read literally, the answer would likely be "Yes", as surely SOMEONE thinks Sony will pull the plug). No explanation, relative or otherwise, is really needed.
Anyway, I'll add my voice to the chorus of "no"s. Sony has made mistakes with the PS3, but it is not yet certain that they are fatal mistakes for this generation, nor has it tarnished a general desire for a Sony system (the problem is that many simply can't afford it). And even if Sony fails to salvage the PS3, it, like MS, is in this for the long haul. They will most likely adapt (as they've proven very able to do) and release a more attractive, more competitive console in the next generation.
As for the PSP, has there been any handheld that has done so well against the Nintendo juggernaut? Especially the DS, which seems to be the perfect storm of Nintendo handhelds? By most measures EXCEPT "how is it doing compared to the DS?" the PSP has been successful, and hopefully the PSP2 will be even better.

Well it would make since not to just say "yes or no" and I would like to know why you said yes or no for your information.
On Topic: Yea I agree with you on what you said.
In historical terms I have to think of the PC Engine, which I actually believe did do quite well in the Japanese and European markets but failed in the US market. However, it was also the first entry from NEC (a large Japanese electronics manufacturing concern). Before the 360, I had expected the same from Microsoft, but they kept dumping money in. However, I think Sony has already seen profits from this enterprise for many years, and it's going to take more than one stumble, however costly, for them to pack it in and leave the market.
A Wii fan who thinks the PS3 and PSP will fail and Sony will leave the console business, how unexpected.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

Absolutely no one in this thread has said that they believe that Sony will leave the console business. Every single person has agreed that it's unlikely. The person who started this thread is not a "Wii fan". So what are you talking about?

Ugh, I was trying to ignore you for Tak's sake, but apparently you just can't help being foolish. It's a little difficult to believe that you can see the complete financial data for Sony, with a rather detailed breakdown of it, and then retort "RSX and 65 nm will save them!" Sony is bleeding billions of dollars, and they just cut the price of the PS3 in a desperate attempt to spark interest in the system. I cannot imagine how you can see a 1.2 billion-dollar-a-year defecit (Which is what Sony's Q1 Fiscal Report projects to), which is an increase in losses from the same time last year, and suddenly expect regular reductions in production cost to magically stop this bleeding. You provide no evidence, no fiscal projections of any kind, nor even any analysis on precisely how much money the RSX and 65 nm chips will save them on a per-system basis. You do not factor in any other subsidiary costs such as the EU bundles, the costs of software development, the costs of advertising, the costs of third party development (you are aware that Sony is sending additional to help to Epic, among others, to assist in the difficult PS3 development process, correct?), or any other tangential costs. You give no quantifiable evidence at all, while I linked the entirety of Sony's fiscal report for the last decade.
Sony's fiscal reports are absolutely essential to understanding the situation, Hus. Sony lost 300 million dollars last quarter, before a price cut. They've lost 2+ billion dollars in the last two years. The losses have, if anything, accelerated their pace. Can you please explain to me how regular reductions in production cost -- which every technology producer sees -- will take this massive fiscal hemorrhaging and turn it spontaneously in to profits?
