Well I have a hard time saying which one I preferred better between the two as FFIX had characters I actually would care to make sure didn't die in my party (Vivi!) and the ending was so touching while FFVII had the distinction of being the first with FMV and its impression on me just stands out so much. There is NO WAY FFX is better than FFIX, tho. I can say that with certainty. Another thing I can also say for sure is that the best Final Fantasy is not even mentioned as that would have to be FFVI.

I can understand FF X being seen as better then FF VII, but IX? Have you lost it? IX is over all one of the most HATED of the FF series, followed by FF XII. I think it also might have been the lowest selling one as well, might need to check. I personally like FF IX but would never bewitch my lips to utter the blasphemy that is it being better then VII! SHEESH!!!

And VII's most closest relatives are VI and VIII in the way the game plays and feels. VII and VI share a steam punk, gritty underworld feel to it. VII and VIII share similar character designs, at least with arch types. VII's characters are vastly superior to VIIIs though as many of that cast were not even developed. VII will take you on a personal journey with each of it's characters, with all of them even having a secret boss battle, and story element.

Like I said, VII is the BEST! TRUTH!

I've never played 7 (OH NOEZ) but IX is amazing. Everything about it is superb, minus the really unappealing character design. Zidane's face is fugly. The gameplay and storyline made up for it, at least. I still like VIII and its shoddy mechanics better.

That is a utter lie! On most websites IX is one of the most loved, the most hated usually go FFVIII > FFXII > FFX. The most loved is FFVI, while FFVII is somewhere in the middle.

 

For me? FFIX is my favorite FF and FFVII is my second favorite. And do NOT buy Crisis Core before FFVII it will spoil everything!

 Final Fantasy IX was easily the best. The story actually made sense, and had very good characters. Even the feel of the world was a lot better than what VII offered.

FFIX is still good, it just pales in comparison to what is seen as the BEST RPG OF ALL TIME, let alone BEST FF OF ALL TIME!

Wow...you managed to get EVERYTHING in this post wrong (save for VII having better materia, albeit by default). Well done!

 

And obviously, I'm voting for IX. It was a fantastic game, second only to IV in my books, and a great way to send off the first Playstation. I still go back and play it at least once a year. I just wish another game of that calibre comes along someday...
