The wii is the console of the year, look at Hannah Montana Wii, it outsold little big planet, and most of the ps3 line up this year.

The public knows that Hannah montana is a better game than ALL OF THE PS3 LIBRARY COMBINED!

Silly Leo J when will you realize more sales does not equal better game :P

Im just passing along the message the wii fans on this site have said countless amount of times.

I wasn't saying Banjo was a bad game, unless you are referring to Mr. forevercloud. I just merely was implying that it wasn't a sales giant like Gears, Fable, and L4D were.

Even though it might not be a sales giant its numbers are pretty decent and so far its been selling at a steady pace and its nowhere near being a bomb in two weeks time it should surpass both Haze and Too Human in sales.

if Banjo is indeed selling like you say, then it should relieve itself of FLOP status in due time. As of right now it doesn't appear to be that good. If it reaches the 500k mark it is a success in my book. Regardless, PS3 had more games, and more highly praised games then the competition. I mean look at MGS4 and LBP, these are 2/3rds of the most critically acclaimed titles in a decade. GTAIV, MGS4, and LBP are the cream of the crop right now.

I dont know about you but I base a FLOP on a games Sales and Acclaim

TooHuman
-Recieved poorly by media and given really low scores
-Didn't sell very well.
-Verdict: FLOP

Haze
-Recieved more poorly
-Didnt sell almost at all
-Verdict:FLOP

Infinite Undiscovery
-Recieved extremely poorly, I think no one likes this game
--Didn't sell well
-Verdict:FlOP

Banjo
-Havent seen any good scores for this game, I think the average is 79 or below(depending on where you go). Everyone I know that has it was not pleased with it.
-Hasn't sold 500k yet
Verdict:Flop

Socom:Confrontations
-Has sold over 500k according to VGchartz and that is without any Others numbers. I am not sure if this is because they could not get them or that it has not been released there yet.
-Really poor reception, 69 average. Fanbase was pleased with it though from what I have seen.
-Verdict: SUCCESS.....slightly

Banjo did not flop its been out a little over six weeks and as we speak it already surpassed 500K in sales.  Numerous game sites gave the game an above 8/10 score.  Also your friends must all have bad taste in games if none of them liked it.

If we are talking purely sales ... which the OP was... then there hasnt been and there never will be a year of the PS3.. even just in comparison to the 360.

Voila, a speaker of the truth.  That is all I wished to get accross to you, Mr. Cloud.  I also refer to a game as a "big sales giant" if they sold over a million.  Less than a million is still good for some, like Banjo, but for a game like SOCOM with such a huge following, it was a major flop.

Who cares about critical acclain fun factor and enjoyment is really what pushes game sales.  I'm not saying MGS4 is a bad game but if I really want to look at an endless amount of cut scenes I rather watch a real movie.  Also until Sony comes out with a game that cost $90US and sells over 13million copies they are nowhere near the geniuses that the people at Nintendo are.

Despite the fact that the PS3 has better games than the competition, I don´t think this was PS3 year. If we see in 2009 God of War, GT5 and FF13, than we´ll have a great year, a trully PS3 year, with sales reaching 15-16mln. Of course we also need at least a 50$ price cut.

BTW, the wii belongs to another market. The day a HD price cut affects Wii sales, you can come and say, "wii competes with the PS360 and it´s winning". Till then you can be sure nobody is choosing between a Wii and the others HD consoles, they are after the Wii only. They don´t want a videogame, they want Wii. That´s the general perception, and that´s why it doesn´t need a price cut, is a monopoly. And that´s why is pointless to discuss Wii when we talk about sales. The competion rest among both HD consoles.

Ok firstly I am really tired of you trying to play me as some kind of rabid psycho fanboy who has no clue of what he is talking about, implications are completely off base. And My OP is not based on sales, my OP points out that the criteria flipfloped in  the transiting from 07 to 08 to better suit the 360.

07: PS3 sales spike, 360's sink but has the best games=Year of 360!

08:PS3 continues to outsell 360 for 8 months, but 360 gets sales in the end. PS3's library vastly superior to 360 one=Year of the 360 Still?!?!PS3 a failure, DEATH?!!

And Rare is an old company with decades of experience over Socom creators. Banjo has been around since the N64, peak of adventure games under it's belt. Socom has relatively the same amount of success. Its sales are much better for it then say Banjo as of right now.

I am almost assured there are close to 700k Socom:Confrontations sold. Here is why..

-VGchartz has Socom down for 501k sold, this is without Others numbers. Also we all know VG chartz does not follow Digital Download numbers. Socom is available for download from PSN as well as retail disc copy. Socom is at like number 15 of most downloaded on PSN, on a list topped by PAIN(I dont remember where I read this though).

This is why I measure Socom to be a success in comparison to games such as IU, LR,Haze ect.

PS3 didnt have a 200$ Price cut, the 500$ Model was cut to 400$, and 600$ to 500$ >_> .

Probably because most people on a SALES site would say the sales of a system would = if it is the year of it, and this year the sales go Wii > 360 > PS3
