Forums - Gaming - Study: Gamers unaware, don't care about additional game console features

I didn't care about DVD, that didn't hold me back from buying a PS2, I didn't care about UMD movies, MP3 or any other kind of features but that didn't hold me back from buying a PSP and I don't care about Blu Ray movies either, but that won't hold me back any longer to buy a PS3.

And no... at this moment I have no idea what Linux is for *blink* but I do know what White Knight Story, Ratchet & Clank, Oblivion, Disgaea 3, Little Big Planet is for... "gaming". Besides... I'm a quick learner and google explains a lot :P

The average person is literally brain-damaged (ever work a job that serves customers?), so I am not really surprised.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

You don't need to know what blu-ray is to know that something has it.

Seriously, I don't know what kind of suspension my car has because even if I did I wouldn't know why it was important ...

Consumers are not stupid for not knowing these things, people who make claims like "The average person is literally brain-damaged (ever work a job that serves customers?), so I am not really surprised." should realize that people only learn about things that are important to them.

How many people on this site have no interest in sports? Does it make them idiots for not knowing who Barry Bonds or Maria Sharapova are?

How many people on this site have no interest in cars? Does it make them idiots for not knowing that a Ford and Mazda are cars made by the same company?

How many people on this site have no interest in fashion? Does it make them idiots for not knowing the difference between Flare's and Bell Bottoms?

People need to grow up and realize that most people end up making their purchasing decisions based off of very limited information because they can't possibly know everything about everything.

True, but if you don't know what Blu-Ray is, and therefore don't care about it, you just don't pay any attention to "Blu-Ray" text, even that it would be the first text you see when turning on your console. Edit:HS, it's propably McPherson. What car do you drive? LOL

If you don't know what Blu-Ray is, you won't notice (or care) when you see it on the box.

Well to be honest with you the DVD player in the inside of the PS2 is what drove consumers into getting the PS2...At the time of the PS2 launch nobody could afford DVD players because it was expensive...and I believe many people caught the attention that a DVD player and a game console for $300 was a bargain at the time...especially for the Japanese they needed to see Enter the Matrix!!!

The general market also seems far less discriminating than the internet news hound type as well. A lot of people probably don't notice some of these things because they're already perfectly happy with their purchase. They also probably just don't care. For some, HD is probably pretty meaninglessness, after all it's the same games, just at a higher resolution. Same for BluRay, same movies, prettier picture, but the content is the same.

I actually do work in the service industry. I'm salesperson for a Tent Rental Business. Rare to find new customers who know a lot about tents, but that's why they talk to me. That's my job, and I do my very best to answer questions, and try my best to predicate things they might not consider for, such as center poles interfering with their event.

I don't expect them to spend a lot of time researching this stuff when all most people usually need are practical answers, and a good service person can field those needs much faster.

I still stand by what I said about the average person being brain-damaged, ESPECIALLY when it comes to technology. I am not judging them, since they usually end up paying for it by forking over money for tech support and a whole bunch of unnecessary things at Best Buy they don't even know how to use. People who make the technology can only do so much.
