Maybe Monster Hunter 3 and the Last one and the Final fantasy might strengthen the Wii's RPG front but it is by NO means the JRPG console because the rest look honestly mediocre. Most of them will probably get over looked due to the release of Final Fantasy XIII which is still exclusive in japan on PS3.


So you are hailing WKC, but dismiss something like Kizuna/Fragile and Muramasa as mediocre?!? Wow. Just wow. My guess is you don't care about JRPGs at all, maybe the occasional Final Fantasy until the third dungeon.

And I'm certain no-one is stupid enough to release a JRPG next to Final Fantasy XIII.

Both consoles are incredible as far as JRPGs go. It's hard to choose between Xenogears or Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy VI or VII. Let's just hope those golden days ever come back, but I'm afraid.

They can come back.  There just need to be more AAA JRPGs other than Final Fantasy and Persona.  Maybe some of the design for JRPGs need a little work too because they keep making JRPGs with the "kids save the world" stories.  Fragile is doing a good job avoiding that plot entirely and the main characters are children in that game.  Also, the cutscene heaviness is also a problem because people tend to think they are trying to make interactive movies and not games.

@Benga Benga: I do agree that the Ps1 was realy good in terms of JRPGs, just not SNES good. Besides all that was already mentioned, Earthbound speaks for itself.
I don't think those days are coming back though. People don't put heart in games anymore (except maybe Myamoto and Schaffer), and I believe the days of games that are light, but somehow deep at the same time are in the past.

Yeah, it was so good looking that the CGI and ingame was almost indistinguishable outside of touches like the characters hair.
