Forums - Gaming - To beat a dead horse, I just beat fallout 3 and man that whole end sucked.

Spoilers ahead obviously if you care about the main campaign.

Ok, so everything was going fine story wise until I got to raven rock and started talking to the president. After he told me about how he will save washington DC with my help, and how he is the embodiment of George Washington and all our other greatest presidents I get to my conversation tree and choose the option

"No, you can't do this, you need to destroy yourself and all of raven rock, disband the enclave and get rid of everything you've been working for for the past 200 years!"

".....Ok. Screw my ideals. I'll do it since you asked nicely.". And then I leave and the place blows up....what the hell?

So then I go through the mission to get to the purifier and the at the end Some one has to go in and activate the purifier, but oh no, it's heavily irradiated in there! No problem, I've got Fawkes the radiation proof Mutant who has done stuff like this for me in the past, go to it fawks, I'll tell you how.....wait no, not an option. I have to choose between one of us two frail humans, no problem. I've got a radiation suit packed away here and bunch of Rad-X and RadAway...I'll do it. See the radiation doesn't even hurt now. I'll just walk in here press the button and.....I'm dead....for no logical reason.

The whole bit with the computer made little sense, I didn't even have high charisma or speech skills and I just told him to self destruct and for no apparent reason the two hundred year old president decided to kill himself and everything he's worked to create, because in two sentences I convinced him the error of his ways.

Then I have to die by radiation in two seconds even though I have a radiation proof partner and a radiation suit and anti-radiation drugs. Of all the possibilities (or lack there of in this case) it came down to that. Major lack of freedom to choose the ending.

Wondering around the wasteland is great fun, getting to be a part of the world, do jobs, explore, ect ect  is great. But that storyline was weaksauce. And the end was just dumb as hell.

I'll pick this game up when its cheap, despite this erm....harsh review of its ending

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

Meh don't care. I will have DLC !!! The story continues =)

Yeah hopefully the dlc will wipe this ending away. i had a lot of fun with this game, but I'm with ya, the ending was really lacking.

Currently Playing:

Dead Space (360) Prince of Persia "Collecting all the Light Seeds" (360)

Gears of War 2 (360)

Very true, ending sucked on ice. Watched the roommate play through it and it was kind of silly, because even when he tried to go in and save everyone, apparently his karma was so bad that he still got the ending where He supposedly let the chick fix it.

I think the president killing himself isn't supposed to make much sense, and is more for a laugh. Though you are right, logically speaking it doesn't seem like that would ever work.

Did you have high Karma? Fawkes won't go in if you have high Karma, AFIAK.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

^^ That itself doesn't make sense since you probably had high karma when fawkes went in the first time in the vault.

To Each Man, Responsibility

While I agree that the lack of options in the ending kinda sucked, I got around it by being a complete bastard the entire game, not having Fawkes join my party, and sending in the bitch in to die.

I win!

I agree, great game but the ending feel rush and definitely not very satisfying. I am not sure why many of the video games want to have philosophical ending bull-crap.

I love the game play through it in a week or so, but the end really wreck the whole experience for me. I am not sure how DLC suppose to make any sense ...

Still a very fun game, too bad they want the "epic" ending that turn out to be lame.

Yeah, I'm going to start a new game and be a total jackassholewad. I'm really looking forward to being able to kill indiscriminately, and steal whatever I want....though strangely even as a good character I could pick pockets of just about anybody without repercussion. That's another gripe, but in a whole different league, and not really with fallout alone. I like the idea of being able to be good or bad or whatever, but the morality is sooo black and white, and also at the same time so daftly wrong. There isn't any real moral complexity to the situations or how you handle them, and everything is either "good" or "Bad". And you yourself are either "good" or "bad". I think it would be awesome to have a morally complex character. A racist murderer who would take a bullet for a child of any kind. A misogynistic woman beating town saving vigilante. Something that isn't just "good" or "bad" A little more gray with complexity and depth. And example of the simplicity and daftness of it's moral compass; I was doing a mission where a town was being terrorized by a group of bandits. They are stealing, murdering, destroying, the townspeople are terrified, can't leave their homes and expect to die in the next raid. So I track the bandit's to their hideout in an abandoned subway. A guy sits in a chair guarding the door to their lair. I walk up, talk to the guy politely, he tells me to fuck off, I offer to bribe him to get inside, he tells me to fuck off, I shoot him in the face with a shotgun and take his keys. I am now the bad guy. Why? I didn't antagonize him to the point of him trying to kill me. Now, every raping, murdering, pillaging bandit I kill in here gives me negative Karma and if I take any of their stuff I'm stealing, pick any locks I'm breaking an entering. Why? I didn't give the jack ass a fair chance to kill me first. If I had spent some time passive aggressively getting on his nerves until he pulled a gun on me, I would've been a hero. But since I took decisive action I am a bad guy. What the hell?
