Eh... fanboys suck. Use logic. Finalsquall must be the most illogical 30 year old i've ever heard of. But i'm not going to attack him or anyone. People just need to use logical sense.
If nyou can't use sense and make your console win then at least say: "The Wii is selling very fast and its grabbing the attention of more and more gamers etc. but i still think 360/Ps3 will win." or somethin' like that.
Then we can all see you prefer another brand and are in some sense a fanboy but at least this wouldn't cause much flaming, and make you look like less of an idiot. Common Sense. This goes for all.

Maybe, but this generation has taught developers to be much more cautious about how they spend their development resources. Many developers have never backed or trusted Nintendo's consoles. Some refuse to for their own personal reasons and agendas. And those developers are probably going to choose to be cautious against Nintendo, always giving the other guys the benefit of the doubt.
We will never see a Nintendo console get the support that PS2 did most likely, but that doesn't mean it cannot be close. The PS2 had a lot more going for it than the fact that the PS1 did well. It played DVDs at a time when DVDs were becoming popular which helped it rocket in sales in Japan and later here in the US. It also came at perfect timing as the N64 was on its last legs, the visual difference was much more stunning than the blocky and fuzzy PS1 and N64, and amongst all of this PS2 still had a year headstart.
I don't know if a console will ever be in such a secure position again. The Wii could have if it were released earlier, but the Wii is a different animal and is carving its own path. The Wii is gathering customers like the PS2 should have. Instead of consumers buying for DVD capabilities, they are buying the gaming console for the games! (even if some are casual centric) Wii has also already become a cultural phenomenon in less than a year. In fact, it was one a few months after launch. PS2 took a bit more time to reach that status.
Wii 2 is going to be determined by if it can keep this momentum. If Nintendo perfects these concepts or gives us something else that will blow the casual publics mind, then we might see Wii 2 in every house in the world. lol.

One thing to consider is that the Gameboy, Gameboy Advance, Nintendo DS and Gamecube (under Iwata's leadership) all worked towards Nintendo building a fairly solid relationship with most major third party developers. The main reasons why developers did not jump to support the Wii (or the Nintendo DS) was because there was a lot of uncertainty as to whether Nintendo could be successful in direct competition with Sony and whether these 'Radical' new designs would resonate with consumers. I expect that these concerns have been met and that we can expect to see major support from most publishers going forward ...
The reason why I don't expect that you will see the same exact level of support for the Wii as you saw for the PS2 is because most of the primiere development studios in the World will have to make a decision at the very begining of the development process whether they are going to target the Wii, the PS3/XBox 360 or produce a multiplatform game; there really isn't going to be the option to port the game after it has started production. This will become an issue because Microsoft and Sony will pay a lot of money to get "timed exclusivity" on games like Resident Evil 6 or whatnot which will (essentially) prevent the Wii from getting that game.
Microsoft and Sony will be farily limited in how many major third party studios they can attract through money though because they will have a limited budget (with a minimal ability to hide it if they go overbudget) and competition between the two console manufacturers will drive prices up. Publishers will also be reasonably likely to release games based on the same IP to the Nintendo Wii (similar to how the Gameboy has always been handled) at the same time; for example you could see Square take the Final Fantasy XII engine and port it to the Wii and produce an alternate storyline for Final Fantasy XIII using that engine.

It is a major game of that generation, and it is one of my favorites... if you look at my post again though, I was only posting new games major gameplay changes. I said, "As much as we like to think generations are won by established franchises each gen has it's new ones that define the winner."
I used to think that FF was key to success, too. But the time I made that arguement (when I was new on here)I had my ass handed to me by some of the more knowledgable posters... FF didn't goto PSone because of storage, it's because in Japan it had already won the console race.
You see, the "war" has always been decided in Japan, and early... Not that this one is set in stone, the markets outside of Japan are much bigger than they were, but they're going in the same direction.
I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.
Hmmm....one thing I wonder...3rd parties were caught off guard by Wii´s sales success, most of their main projects are going to PS3 and 360,and will take time to fully be developed...so,by the time they shift focus and decide to create "big games" for the Wii,not quick cash-ins,we´ll maybe be nearing the 8th generation, perhaps not allowing the system the potential of many "BIG" 3rd party titles every sales leading system has had.

Then it depends of how much it will cost Nintendo to create a new console with improved sensor motion (at times they do suck), a harddrive included and High Defenition supported or to say... "next gen". |
I didn't have time to answer to this post before but I feel that it is something that is necessary to discuss in a civil manner.
I would like to adress this about the suspected low lifespan of the Wii.
According to some, and now latest Onna76, Wii will have a very short lifespann. A lifespann at only 2 years is almost unheard of (DC only I think, a product that got Sega for good more or less), 3 years isn't that common either. For the Wii to have a 2 years lifespann it would probarbly need to stop selling altogether, not impossible, strange things have happend before, but it is unlikely that it stops selling before the holiday season.
This means that during the next year, Nintendo needs to discover that Wii isn't selling any more and to revile Wii HD or whatever. This is also saying that instead of a price cut Nintendo will release something new.
Three years is at least theoretical possible, the main reason is that many belives this is that they assums that the power of the Wii isn't enough. This is a strange idea becuase the same crowd is saying that the PS3 is going to have a 10 years lifespann. Now I am not saying that the Wii will get a 10 years lifespann but I would like to make an comparsion with the assumed lifespann of the PS3 with the Wii.
The Wii is a GC on steriods, 2-3 times more powerfull over the whole range (GPU, CPU, amount of RAM). It also has feaures that the GameCube didn't have: motion sensors, downloadable containt, online games and so on. The Gamecube was released in september 2001 (japan), the Wii in november 2006. That leaves us with a lifespann of 5 years for the cube. A consol that in many way was a failure. Now if we give the Wii a lifespann on 4-5 years we will get a total lifespann for the Gamecube technology on 9-10 years. If the PS3 can succed with that, without any update, why can't the Wii technology?
As it is now I can think of three major reasons that Nintendo wont release any hardware update that changes the pure amount of horsepowers availible for the devs.

Buy it and pray to the gods of Sigs: Naznatips!
...Then there's no doubt that Nin will do Wii 2.
True fighters don't wear socks.
| Soriku said: @Happy You're forgetting Sony doesn't buy exclusivity, they 'earn' it. So we'll see what MS'll do. So far they only stole BKD and GTA IV which isn't much and partially hurts Sony, but not Nintendo. So MS can mix things up, but not enough to win the console wars. I'm surprired they haven't taken FF XIII/MGS4 yet. But I don't think we have to worry much. MS'll try to mix up Sony but I doubt Nin. But if they tried to attack Nin it might not be much. It depends on what they offer and if devs'll accept. I think Western devs might accept but Japanese devs not so much/at all. |
That's Sony's claim but I'm certain they're using a very specific definition of "buy exclusivity" which doesn't include a lot of what the average person would consider "buying exclusivity" ... The fact of the matter is that any game which has a contractual obligation to be exclusive to a particular platform (Metal Gear Solid 4 as an example) is getting something in return for this contractual obligation; it could be a massive marketing campaign, drastically reduced licencing fee, development money, use of IP, or plain old bribe.
These threads are so tedious and annoying. Who the fuck cares who wins the great console war? The only way you win is by being a stockholder, other wise this is completely stupid. Stop making these threads for the love of God. All is does is encourage trolling and flaming.
